What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.32
Kiosk Satellite now has a family calendar built on your Home Assistant calendars, with Day, Week, Month and Schedule views and an Up next screensaver widget. With an LLM conversation agent or a realtime conversation, you can also add, find, move and cancel events by voice. The App Launcher now waits while another app plays video or music before returning to the dashboard, and plugins can control Music Assistant. This release also fixes Bubble Card sliders on the carousel, kiosk links in iframes and the remote admin's entity picker on large setups.
New Feature: Calendar
- Your Home Assistant calendars on the kiosk. Add calendars under Settings > Calendar, on the device or in the remote admin, and give each one a name, a color and an optional person whose picture goes on its chip. Any Home Assistant calendar works, such as Google Calendar, CalDAV, Local Calendar or a holiday calendar.
- Four views. Day shows one lane per calendar, Week shows the seven days side by side, Month shows as many events per day as fit and Schedule shows today with the next event, then the coming two weeks. Tap any event for its time, how it repeats, its location and its description.
- Shared events. An event on more than one calendar, such as an invitation two people share, shows once with its background split on a diagonal between their colors.
- Hide a calendar with its chip. Tap a chip in the top bar to hide that calendar on this kiosk. It stays hidden until you tap it again.
- Weather on each day. Pick a weather entity to add the daily forecast to the Week and Schedule views.
- Fits every screen. The layout adapts to tablets in landscape and portrait, short screens such as the Echo Show 5, and phones.
- Live and light. On Home Assistant 2026.5 and later, changes reach the kiosk within seconds. Older versions are read every five minutes. The kiosk reads Home Assistant only while the calendar or the Up next widget is on screen.
- Open it your way. Open the calendar from the kiosk menu, a new Open the calendar gesture action, a dashboard button pointed at
ks://calendarorks://calendar/<view>, or the new ESPHome Calendar view select, which also switches and closes it from Home Assistant. The Calendar fleet category syncs the calendars and their settings. See Calendar.
New Feature: The calendar by voice
- Add, find, move and cancel events. Import the new Kiosk Satellite calendar blueprint, create a script from it and expose it to Assist. Then ask "add soccer practice for Leo on Thursday at 4", "what does Sam have tomorrow?", "move the dentist to Friday" or "cancel Leo's soccer on Thursday" in any language your agent speaks.
- People by name. The kiosk finds people by its calendars' names and people, so the blueprint has nothing to set up. An event for several people goes on each of their calendars and shows once with their colors.
- Careful with repeating events. If an event repeats, the agent asks whether you mean one day or every time before it cancels anything.
- See it on screen. The kiosk you are talking to opens the calendar on the day the request is about, with a ring around the event it added, found or changed.
- Realtime too. Realtime conversations with Tools set to Home Assistant use the same script. Like voice alarms, it needs an LLM conversation agent and a Home Assistant token from an administrator. See Managing the calendar by voice.
New Feature: Up next screensaver widget
- What is left today. A new corner widget lists the events still to come today, up to five, each with a dot in its calendar's color, its start time and its title. The corner stays empty once nothing else is on today, and a tap opens the calendar. See Screensavers.
Improvements
- Return automatically waits for media (#1055). The App Launcher's Return automatically no longer pulls the kiosk back while another app plays video or music, such as SmartTube or Plex. Once playback stops or pauses, the full Return after time starts over. The new Wait while media plays switch is on by default. It reads other apps' media sessions, so it needs Notification access, which now shows in the App Launcher's Required system permissions group on the device and in the remote admin.
- Plugins can control Music Assistant (#1053). A plugin that declares the new
macapability runs Music Assistant commands for players, queues, the library and metadata and follows Music Assistant events. It goes through the kiosk's own connection and token, so the plugin needs no token of its own and never sees the kiosk's. See Music Assistant. - Plugins know the kiosk's own player (#1053). With
host.read, a plugin reads the kiosk's Sendspin player through the newgetSendspinPlayercommand and follows its changes through thesendspin.playerevent, so a plugin with its own player interface can drive the kiosk's player. - Household settings group. Intercom, Alarms and the new Calendar moved out of Media & Cameras into a Household group of their own, on the device and in the remote admin.
- Installed plugins show their own icon. A plugin that names an icon in its manifest now shows it at the top of its page in Settings > Plugin Manager.
- Fewer GitHub requests per plugin review. Opening a plugin's review now makes one GitHub API request instead of two, so a home with several kiosks runs into "GitHub denied the request" half as often.
Fixes
- Bubble Card sliders no longer swipe the dashboard carousel (#1049). Dragging a Bubble Card slider with the carousel on no longer moves to the next view.
- Kiosk links in an iframe no longer show ERR_UNKNOWN_URL_SCHEME (#1044). A
ks://orapp://link inside an iframe, such as a Webpage dashboard or an iframe card, still runs its action and now leaves the frame empty instead of on Chromium's error page. - The remote admin's entity picker keeps up with large setups (#1047). The list now draws 100 rows at a time, so with 8,000 entities a keystroke in its search takes about 15 ms instead of up to 400 ms.
