What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.30

Kiosk Satellite now has a plugin directory, Community Plugins, where you can find, search and install plugins made by the community with one tap. Plugins can also draw Voice Satellite skins, use the camera and scan barcodes, and add buttons to their settings pages. This release also adds an Image URL screensaver and Music Assistant group volume on the hardware buttons, and fixes chimes, DLNA, Safari and more.

New Feature: Community Plugins

  • Browse plugins. Settings > Plugin Manager has a new Browse plugins page, on the device and in the remote admin, that lists plugins their authors submitted to the plugins repository. Each one shows its icon, author, version, stars and downloads.
  • Search, sort and pages. Search by name, description, author, GitHub owner or plugin ID. Sort by orders the list by downloads, stars, recent updates, newest or name, and you pick 5 to 100 plugins a page.
  • One tap to install. Picking a plugin opens the same review as Add plugin. A plugin you already have says Installed or offers its update. Nothing installs until you choose Trust and install, and the review now says whether a repository is listed in Community Plugins.
  • On the web too. The same list is on kiosksatellite.com/plugins. Its Install button opens the plugin's review in your kiosk's remote admin.
  • No more plugin limit. Plugin Manager no longer stops at 8 installed plugins.
  • For plugin authors. Plugins can now name a 256x256 PNG icon in their manifest with the new icon field. See Submit your plugin to list yours.

New Feature: Plugin voice skins (#1027)

  • Skins from plugins. Plugins that declare the new voice.skin capability appear under their own name in Voice Satellite > Appearance > Skin, with their own thumbnail. While one is picked, the plugin draws the turn, full screen or docked.
  • Same settings as the built-in skins. Plugin skins follow the Theme, Background, Text size and Reactive activity bar settings. Results, toasts, timer pills and double tap to dismiss stay. If the plugin stops, the overlay falls back to the Kiosk Satellite skin. See Voice skins.

New Feature: Plugin camera and barcode scanning (#1041)

  • Barcode scanning. With the new barcode capability, a plugin opens the Kiosk Satellite scanner and gets back the code it reads, from QR codes to EAN-13 and Code 128. Expose the plugin's scan action as an ESPHome button to start a scan from a Home Assistant automation.
  • Camera frames. With the new camera capability, a plugin receives frames from the camera session motion detection uses, up to 1280x720 and 15 frames a second. While the scanner is open, motion detection, face detection, hand gestures and the RTSP stream pause and come back when it closes. Both need Enable camera on. See Camera and barcodes.

New Feature: Image URL screensaver (#1038)

  • Photos from one address. The new Image URL screensaver mode shows a photo from a web address that returns an image, such as a server that returns a random photo, and fetches it again for every slide. It has the usual Seconds per photo, Transition, Fill the screen, Tap edges to change slides and Show metadata settings. See Screensavers.

Improvements

  • Plugin settings buttons and choices (#1028). Plugins can put buttons such as Test connection or Pair on their settings page, with progress, a result and Cancel. A text setting can take its choices from the plugin, and the plugin settings pages now save only the setting that changed. See Settings buttons and plugin choices.
  • Plugins follow Scale UI (#1037). Plugin overlays now grow and shrink with Settings > Device > Scale UI, and a wrapped overlay is no longer cut off above 100%.
  • Plugin list rows show entities by name (#1036). A list row whose title or subtitle is an entity now shows the friendly name, icon and state, the way the entity picker does.
  • Show AM/PM on a 12-hour clock (#1038). The Clock screensaver's Digital face, the Weather Mood clock and the Clock widget each have a Show AM/PM switch while 24-hour clock is off.
  • Volume buttons for the Music Assistant group (#1032). With the Sendspin player picked and Adjust the group volume on, the hardware volume buttons now change the volume of the Music Assistant group the device plays in, so each room keeps its balance.
  • Volume buttons on the Echo Dot. On the Kiosk Satellite Edition image 2026.10.2 or newer, the Echo Dot's volume buttons control the followed player or its Music Assistant group.
  • Echo Dot guide for the Kiosk Satellite Edition image. The Echo Dot guide now uses the Kiosk Satellite Edition of LineageOS for the Echo Dot, which installs Kiosk Satellite on first boot with every permission. The Action button also works there without the accessibility service.

Fixes

  • Silent chimes with a speaker picked (#1035). On Android 11 devices such as the Echo Show 5, the wake, done, error, timer and announcement sounds played silence when a speaker was picked under Settings > Screen & Audio > Speaker. They play again.
  • Voice turn stuck after a streamed WAV answer (#1030). With a TTS engine that streams WAV, such as Chatterbox over Wyoming, the overlay stayed up and the wake word stayed paused after the answer ended. The turn now ends when the audio does.
  • Black Music Assistant page over HTTPS (#1033). With Music Assistant on Home Assistant's own host over HTTPS, the Music Assistant page opened black. It now shows.
  • Claps in a large room (#1026). In a big room with hard surfaces, claps were thrown out as sustained sound. The new Large room option under Gestures > Clap detection allows for the echo.
  • Green line under videos on a Google Pixel (#1024). Videos on a Pixel Tablet showed a green line along the bottom. It is gone.
  • DLNA renderer slow to come back after a restart (#1024). Home Assistant could take up to 10 minutes to see the DLNA renderer again after a restart. It now reconnects right away.
  • Screensaver over a DLNA video. With a short screensaver timeout, the screensaver kept starting over a video sent to the DLNA renderer. It now waits while DLNA media plays.
  • Remote admin reloading in Safari. In Safari 27, opening a settings page in the remote admin reloaded the whole page. It no longer does.
  • Wake word arbitration after a slow Wi-Fi start. When Wi-Fi was not up yet as Kiosk Satellite started, such as on an Echo Dot after a reboot, the other kiosks only reached it by broadcast. It now recovers once Wi-Fi is up.
