What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.17
This release brings one entity and player picker to every setting that picks a Home Assistant entity or a media player, on the device and in the remote admin. The Call a Home Assistant service gesture now picks its service from Home Assistant's own list, and a round of fixes makes the remote admin work better on phones.
New Feature: One entity and player picker
- Everywhere you pick an entity or player. The screensaver Entity and Weather widgets, At a Glance > Entities, Weather Mood's weather entity, Adaptive brightness's Light sensor entity, the Camera Streams screensaver's Home Assistant cameras, the Run a script, Trigger an automation and Call a Home Assistant service gestures, plugin entity settings, the announcements' and alarms' Text to speech engine, the Sendspin Player and Voice Satellite's Play sounds on all open the same picker.
- Grouped by area. Entities are listed under their Home Assistant areas with their icons and current states. Chips narrow the list by kind, and search finds entities by name, entity ID or area.
- Players by source. Players are grouped by source, and an offline player is dimmed.
- Fits a phone. On a phone or a narrow screen the picker fills the screen and drops the row icons, leaving the width for the names, instead of running off the right edge.
- Clear fields. Settings that store an entity show it as a field with its icon, name and state, and flag an entity that no longer exists in Home Assistant. Cancel closes the picker without changing anything.
- At a Glance entities in their own group. The entities now sit in their own Entities group below Show on Now Playing, listed in order with arrows to reorder and Add entities to pick more. Inside the picker, a Showing count tracks the limit and the picks can be dragged into order.
- Attribute values. The Entity widget's value step offers the entity's state and its attributes with their current values.
- Offline aware. When Home Assistant cannot be reached, the picker says so instead of showing an empty list.
Improvements
- Pick the service for a Call a Home Assistant service gesture. The gesture's typed Domain and Service fields are now one Service field that opens the picker over Home Assistant's services, named in Home Assistant's language and grouped by domain. Entity (optional) then lists only the entities the picked service acts on, and stays off for a service that takes none. Scripts and automations stay with their own Run a script and Trigger an automation gestures.
Fixes
- Picking Play sounds on no longer reloads the remote admin page. Choosing a player for Voice Satellite's Play sounds on redrew the whole remote admin page. Play as now comes and goes in place.
- Installed plugins read well on a phone. In Plugin Manager > Installed plugins, the switch, the buttons and the chevron left the plugin's name and repository a sliver a word wide. On a narrow screen the buttons now sit on a line of their own under the name, on the device and in the remote admin.
- Switches stay at the right of their row on a phone. In the remote admin on a narrow screen, a setting with a long title, such as Keep listening in the background, pushed its switch onto a line of its own. The title now wraps and the switch stays beside it.
- Long entity IDs wrap on a phone. In the remote admin on a narrow screen, text with no spaces, such as the satellite's entity ID on Voice Satellite's Home Assistant row, ran past the right edge, and in a dialog such as Watched entities it pushed the whole dialog off the screen. It now wraps inside the row and dialogs stay within the screen.
- Multi-line fields in the remote admin have room at the top. Text areas, such as a gesture's Service data (optional), drew their first line against the top border.
