What's new in Kiosk Satellite 2026.10.13
This release lets plugins draw their own native overlays on the kiosk and adds a Russian translation. It also fixes iCloud albums as a screensaver folder and a video memory leak on Samsung Exynos tablets.
New Feature: Plugin overlays
- Native overlays. Plugins with the
overlaycapability can now show their own Android views over the kiosk withhost.showOverlay, from a small bar anchored to an edge to a full screen panel (#890). - Layered like the dashboard. Overlays sit in Kiosk Satellite's own screen, so the menu, the screensaver and Lockdown Mode cover them like the dashboard. An overlay can instead draw on top where the Voice Satellite overlay does, over the screensaver and camera views. A visual-only overlay lets every touch through to the dashboard.
- Styled like the app. Plugins receive the app's colors, corner radii, spacing and Rubik typeface, with helpers that style cards, buttons and sliders like the app's own. Overlays restyle when the theme switches between light and dark.
- Back closes overlays. Back closes the topmost overlay unless the plugin opts out.
- Crash protection. A plugin whose own code crashes the app is now switched off before the restart, so a broken plugin cannot crash the kiosk on every start.
Improvements
- Russian translation. Русский is available during onboarding and in Settings on the device and in Remote Admin, with all current messages translated. Thanks to Iaroslav Iadryshnikov for the translation.
- More plugin settings. Plugins can now declare up to 50 settings, up from 20.
Fixes
- iCloud albums work as a screensaver folder. Picking an iCloud shared album with Use this folder saved the iCloud root instead of the album, so the screensaver stayed black (#896). The media picker now saves the folder you opened, on the device and in the remote admin. Pick the album again after updating.
- Videos no longer fill the memory on Samsung Exynos devices. On a Galaxy Tab S9 FE, every video the Immich screensaver played left graphics memory behind until the tablet slowed down, showed green or corrupted frames and went black (#894). Videos on Samsung Exynos devices running Android 12 or later now play on their own Android surface, which the display shows directly. This covers the Immich and local media screensavers and DLNA video.
- Screenshots show videos played on their own surface. The remote admin preview and the Screenshot camera now capture these videos instead of showing black in their place. This applies to Samsung Exynos devices and to devices whose decoder cannot play into Flutter's texture.
