Batman: Arkham Origins in PC VR: native stereo (the game draws both eyes every frame), per-eye DLSS, an AFW speed mode, an optional first-person view, head aiming, and OpenXR for Virtual Desktop, SteamVR and Pimax.
New in 0.1.6
- Grapple points where you look: look up or around with your head and the game's grapple markers appear on what you can reach - no need to turn the camera with the stick. The markers stay locked on their spot (they still slide along a long ledge, as in the normal game). With "also left / right" (VR menu, FIRST PERSON, on by default) the stick walks Batman where you look; untick it to keep looking left and right to yourself.
- Labels point at their targets: the info the game hangs on people (enemy info, vital signs in detective mode) now sits on the person it belongs to, in both eyes.
- Detective mode drawn once for both eyes: the vignette, honeycomb and the stripes moving along the outlines used to be drawn around each eye separately; they are now shared, so they fuse into one picture.
- Evidence scanner: the same fix for its vignette and scan lines, and the HUD now follows your head while scanning, so you scan by looking (no trigger needed).
- Right-stick camera zoom fixed: clicking the right stick could make Batman disappear, leaving only his shadow, and clicking again put the camera inside his head. The camera now follows the game's zoom.
- First-person shortcut: the double-click for first person now needs both thumbsticks clicked together, so the right stick's own click no longer counts toward it.
Install: start the game once from Steam and quit, unpack BatmanOriginsVR-ArkhamOrigins.zip, run Install-BatmanOriginsVR.bat, then start Batman Origins VR from the desktop. Full steps in the README. Installing over an older version is fine.
- Native stereo 3D with full head tracking on the game's third-person camera
- Aim with your head: hold the left trigger and the batclaw and other gadgets go where you look, in first and third person
- First person if you want it: tick FIRST PERSON in the VR menu, or click both thumbsticks twice quickly
- Camera position: move the third-person camera left / right, up / down and closer / further (VR menu, VIEW > camera position)
- Lens flares that stay put; no pop-in after loading screens
- DLSS for each eye (NVIDIA RTX), or AFW for more frames per second
- HUD on a panel in front of you; menus, map and loading screens in the room with full-view bat transitions
- Puddle reflections drawn for each eye
- In-headset VR menu (hold both thumbsticks, or F10); settings are saved
- VR software with no 32-bit OpenXR runtime (for example Pimax): the shortcut uses SteamVR's 32-bit runtime by itself (needs SteamVR installed)
- The installer saves your game settings first and turns depth of field, motion blur and V-sync off; the uninstaller puts them back exactly
Known issues: Batman's head is not hidden in first person (the camera sits just in front of his face). Do not run Steam or the game as administrator.
Tested with Quest 3 through Virtual Desktop on an RTX 4070 Ti. SteamVR and Pimax have not been tested by us yet.
Credits: built on bioshock-vr (MIT), MinHook, Dear ImGui and the OpenXR SDK; per-eye DLSS method from the Luma Framework's Arkham Knight mod; DLSS is NVIDIA's. See THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md. Unofficial fan mod; needs your own copy of the game.
