Batman: Arkham Asylum (Game of the Year Edition) in PC VR: native stereo (the game draws both eyes every frame), per-eye DLSS, an optional first-person view, and OpenXR for Virtual Desktop, SteamVR and Pimax.
New in 0.1.6 - most of this release comes from Godoy301's pull request, thank you!
- Aim with your head in first person (Godoy301): batarangs and the batclaw go where you look, and the HUD stays in front of your eyes. The right stick turns you left and right; up and down come from your head. On by default; VR menu, FIRST PERSON > "aim and HUD follow the headset".
- No more flat flashes (Godoy301): for a frame or two the picture could lose its 3D, most often in smoke and steam. Both eyes now always come from the same headset reading.
- World scale (Godoy301): a slider in the VR menu (VIEW); higher makes the world look smaller, as in our City and Origins mods.
- Camera position: move the third-person camera left / right, up / down and closer / further (VR menu, VIEW > camera position).
- First person: leaning back no longer takes the view into Batman's head; it stops just in front of his face.
Install: start the game once from Steam and quit, unpack BatmanAsylumVR-ArkhamAsylum.zip, run Install-BatmanAsylumVR.bat, then start Batman Asylum VR from the desktop. Full steps in the README. Installing over an older version is fine.
- Native stereo 3D with full head tracking on the game's third-person camera
- First person if you want it: tick FIRST PERSON in the VR menu, or click both thumbsticks twice quickly
- DLSS for each eye (NVIDIA RTX); DLSS starts in the background, so the game never pauses for it
- HUD on a panel in front of you; menus (including the upgrades screen) and loading screens on a screen in the room
- Grapple prompts sit on their grapple points; a pointer at the edge of your view shows grapple points you are not looking at
- Detective mode details point at the people they belong to
- In-headset VR menu (hold both thumbsticks, or F10); settings are saved
- VR software with no 32-bit OpenXR runtime (for example Pimax): the shortcut uses SteamVR's 32-bit runtime by itself (needs SteamVR installed)
- Works with the Joker DLC Patcher
Known issues: in first person Batman's head is not hidden (the camera sits just in front of his face), and it stays first person behind the pause menu. Spent shotgun shells on the floor show at the wrong depth; some menu changes can briefly show a black window; AFW is experimental. Do not run Steam or the game as administrator.
Tested with Quest 3 through Virtual Desktop on an RTX 4070 Ti. SteamVR and Pimax have not been tested by us yet. Needs the Steam Game of the Year Edition (unpatched, or with the Joker DLC Patcher).
Credits: built on bioshock-vr (MIT), MinHook, Dear ImGui and the OpenXR SDK; per-eye DLSS method from the Luma Framework's Arkham Knight mod; first-person head aim, the flat-frame fix, the world-scale slider and Joker DLC Patcher support by Godoy301; DLSS and NVAPI are NVIDIA's. See THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md. Unofficial fan mod; needs your own copy of the game.
