Beta for testing via BRAT. This is not in the community plugin store.
⚠️ Requires Obsidian 1.13.0 or newer
Commander's settings are now built on Obsidian's native settings API, which only exists in 1.13+. On an older Obsidian this beta's settings page will be empty. If you're on an older version, don't install this beta (or remove it from BRAT) and stay on 0.5.13.
What's new
The settings screen has been rebuilt on Obsidian's declarative settings, replacing Commander's custom tab bar and settings UI:
- Native look and behavior. Keyboard navigation, accessibility and theming now come from Obsidian itself.
- Searchable. Commander's settings show up in Obsidian's global settings search.
- Pages instead of tabs. General, Left Ribbon, Statusbar, Page Header, Explorer, Editor Menu, File Menu, Text Toolbar (only if the Text Formatting Toolbar plugin is installed), Toolbar (Mobile Toolbar on mobile) and Macros, plus the About block at the bottom.
- Same features, same data. Your settings format is unchanged, so you can go back to 0.5.13 without losing anything.
This beta is built on 0.5.13, so it includes that release's fixes.
Things that behave differently
- Hide toggles now read "on = shown" (like Obsidian's own toggles). Turn a toggle off to hide that item. Your existing hidden items carry over.
- Command rows have an inline name field (saved on Enter or when you click away), an icon button, a color picker and a mode button. Drag to reorder. Rows meant for another device's mode are dimmed instead of hidden.
- On mobile, each row has a pencil button that opens the familiar edit dialog.
- "Open Commander Settings" (command palette) keeps its id and now opens Obsidian's settings on Commander's page instead of a custom window.
- Text Toolbar page has no mode or color controls, because the Text Formatting Toolbar plugin ignores them.
- The spacing slider no longer lets you double-click to type an exact value. It still has its restore-default button.
Known rough edges
- On the Toolbar page, the "Custom icons" heading shows with nothing under it when no mobile-toolbar command lacks an icon.
- About 58 new strings are English-only in the translated languages for now.
What to try
- Open every page and change something on it: add, reorder, rename and delete commands in each location; change an icon, color and mode.
- Hide and show items on the Left Ribbon, Statusbar and menu pages.
- Create, edit and delete a macro.
- Type a setting's name into Obsidian's settings search.
- On mobile, try the pencil edit dialog and the Mobile Toolbar page. I've only tested mobile in an emulator, so real-device reports help most.
Reporting problems
Please open an issue at https://github.com/jsmorabito/obsidian-commander/issues with your Obsidian version, platform (desktop or mobile), and what you did. A screenshot of the settings page helps.
