World War VR v0.4.0-beta.6 — Controls & Aiming Update

pre-release4 hours ago

A free beta update for Call of Duty: World at War (2008), focused on controller interactions and weapon aiming. No Patreon subscription is required.

What changed

  • Fewer accidental knife attacks: right-stick-click melee is disabled by default. Deliberate physical melee remains available; an explicit optional stick-click binding is retained.
  • More reliable sprinting: a short left-stick click starts sprint when the native game permits it, while respecting stamina, stance and scripted restrictions.
  • Reload and handling refinements: improved magazine/clip interactions, insertion and regripping across the tested weapon families, plus steadier weapon transitions and recovery after released-hand tracking gaps.
  • Targeted sight alignment corrections: fixes for specific weapon profiles, including the starting Colt in Nacht der Untoten. The Colt correction was checked with actual native shots in OpenXR Tester and then confirmed in a local headset test. This is not a global aim offset applied to every weapon.
  • Controller-accessible Little Resistance radio: selection, aiming, firing and objective progression were verified in OpenXR Tester without keyboard gameplay input.
  • Clearer VR guidance and weapon visibility: controller-aware reload/radio hints, lower held-controls help, and a Colt shared-surface visibility correction during magazine removal.

The gameplay DLL passed 102 automated native tests and is retained byte-for-byte from the tested build. Focused headset feedback covered sprinting, manual reload, handling, visible weapon parts, help readability and the starting Colt. Other cases have bounded Tester coverage; this is not a new complete Campaign replay or certification of every weapon, headset or controller profile. Earlier foliage, chest-holstering, scope and reload-feedback improvements are retained.

Download and update

Download WorldWarVR-v0.4.0-beta.6-Portable.zip to play. Close the game and old launcher, extract into a new empty folder, keep all files together, and run WorldWarVR.exe after connecting and waking your headset/controllers. Do not merge builds or extract into the game installation.

Select your legitimate compatible World at War 1.7 installation, choose Main Menu for Campaign/Zombies, and start with Performance quality. Leave Automatic Reload OFF for physical reloads, or enable it if you prefer A to complete the native reload.

This is a portable release, with no installer or automatic updater. The attached Source.zip contains complete corresponding source, retained component sources and dependency contents. Source is optional to play and available without an extra fee. Use SHA256SUMS.txt or the ZIP sidecars to verify downloads; GitHub's autogenerated source archives are not the player download.

Still being worked on

The experimental contextual enemy-grenade throwback shortcut remains unresolved and disabled; this release does not advertise it as fixed. Normal grenade controls are retained. Rare keyboard-only tutorial paths, additional weapon variants, affected startup/runtime configurations, regional executable compatibility, Rift S aiming reports, Custom Zombies DirectX crashes and smoke flicker still need targeted follow-up. Some foliage pop-in remains. Local/offline Multiplayer is experimental; online/public/protected servers are unsupported.

Please report the exact ZIP, headset/connection/OpenXR runtime, map, weapon and reproducible steps through GitHub Issues or your existing support conversation. Review logs for personal information before sharing; do not upload game executables, keys or saves.
