A free beta update for Call of Duty: World at War (2008). No Patreon subscription is required.
What's new
- Less short-range foliage pop-in: grass and low shrubs with unusually short cutoffs remain visible farther away. Nearby detail and normal scene visibility checks are retained.
- Mosin clip reload refinements: improved left-hand clip pickup and rifle stability during insertion and regripping.
- Additional interaction work: mechanical manual-reload sounds/controller feedback, Campaign pause-menu layout adjustments, and a safeguard against accidental melee after trigger release.
The foliage change passed both-eye Shuri Castle simulator checks, followed by a Hard Landing headset test through VirtualDesktopXR at a 90 Hz display setting. The result was substantially better, but some pop-in remains. This is not a claim of infinite draw distance, higher headset FPS, or complete coverage of every map.
The retained gameplay DLL passed 76 native tests. Mosin clip work received a local headset check; the additional pause, melee and feedback changes have simulator coverage and still welcome affected-user/hardware retests. The final package has not received another full Campaign playthrough. Launcher behavior is retained from beta.4, with beta.5 version metadata.
Download and update
Download WorldWarVR-v0.4.0-beta.5-Portable.zip to play. Close the game and old launcher, extract into a new empty folder, keep all files together, and run WorldWarVR.exe after connecting your headset/controllers. Do not merge builds or extract into the game installation. Select your legitimate compatible World at War 1.7 installation and start with Performance quality. Leave Automatic Reload OFF for physical reloads.
This is portable: no installer or automatic updater. The attached Source.zip includes complete corresponding source and pinned dependency contents, including original sources for the retained native helper. Source is optional to play and available without an extra fee. Use SHA256SUMS.txt or the ZIP sidecars to verify downloads. GitHub's autogenerated source archives are not the player package.

Remaining issues and support
This update does not establish new regional-executable or all-headset compatibility. Affected startup/runtime configurations, Rift S aiming, Custom Zombies DirectX crashes, smoke flicker and remaining interaction reports still need targeted confirmation. Local/offline Multiplayer is experimental; online/public/protected servers are unsupported.
Report the exact ZIP/build, headset/connection/OpenXR runtime, quality setting, map/weapon and reproducible steps through GitHub Issues or your existing support conversation. Remove personal information from logs before posting. Do not upload game files, keys or saves.
