A new free beta for Call of Duty: World at War (2008). No Patreon subscription is required.
What's new
- Weapons rest on your chest: release both grips and the current weapon stays close to your chest as you turn, lean or crouch. It follows an upright headset-based torso estimate instead of remaining attached to the game's old body direction. Looking down or tilting your head does not tip the holstered weapon. Normal held aiming remains separate.
- More reliable launcher settings: controls wait for saved settings and game discovery to finish loading, preventing early changes from being overwritten. Failed initialization no longer saves partially loaded controls.
- Reload-state improvements: gameplay options are passed explicitly at launch, effective reload mode is logged, and delayed magazine-asset validation can recover without recreating engine-owned objects.
Download and update
Download WorldWarVR-v0.4.0-beta.4-Portable.zip to play. Close the old game/launcher, extract into a new empty folder, keep all files together, and open WorldWarVR.exe. Do not merge builds or extract into the game installation. Select your legitimate compatible World at War 1.7 folder, connect the headset/controllers, and start with Performance quality. Existing normal launcher preferences/profile locations are retained; no private test-profile routing is shipped.
For manual reloads, leave Automatic Reload OFF. Enable it if you want A to perform the full native reload. Snap/smooth turning remains an independent option.
There is no installer or automatic updater. The attached Source.zip is complete matching source, including pinned dependency contents; it is optional to play. Use SHA256SUMS.txt or the ZIP sidecars to verify downloads. GitHub's autogenerated source archives are not the player package and omit ordinary submodule contents.

Test scope and remaining issues
The gameplay DLL passed 72 native tests, focused simulator weapon checks, and a physical-headset chest-placement test. Reload-setting work passed five simulator and five physical Garand cases; the release launcher is version-stamped from that tested implementation. The original customer's intermittent first-launch automatic reload was not reproduced, so that report still needs their retest.
This is not a performance update or an all-headset compatibility fix. Index audio/no-image startup, affected Pimax/runtime configurations, Rift S sight regression, Custom Zombies DirectX crashes, regional/uncut executable compatibility, and remaining scope/pause/smoke/interaction reports are still under investigation. The Campaign was completed during earlier development; the final beta.4 package has not received another full Campaign playthrough. Local/offline Multiplayer is experimental; online/public/protected servers are unsupported.
Please report the exact build, headset/connection/OpenXR runtime, quality setting, map/weapon and steps to reproduce through GitHub Issues or your existing support conversation. Remove personal information before posting logs. Do not upload game files, keys or saves.
