Beta pre-release. Wildfire popups say more and link to InciWeb for many more fires, the wildfire overlay downloads a fraction of the data, and DWD history is capped at 24 hours. Drop-in upgrade from 3.12.0-beta2; coming from 3.11, see beta2's CARTO change below.

Worth knowing

• DWD history is capped at 24 hours (was 84, reachable only in YAML). A longer past_minutes now gives 24 hours: DWD keeps only 72–96 hours, and frames older than that failed and stopped the rest of the loop loading, forecast included.

What's new

• Richer wildfire popups — where the fire is, personnel, cause, and how long ago its perimeter was mapped and its record updated (most current perimeters are over a week old). Details a fire has no data for are left out, and the link now says InciWeb, where it goes.
• InciWeb links for many more fires — opening a popup checks whether the fire has an InciWeb page, and the link appears a moment later when it does. Of the 30 largest current fires, 22 now get a link instead of 10.

Changed

• Wildfire data is a fraction of the size — the overlay re-downloaded every US fire perimeter at full detail (1.4 MB gzipped, 13.7 MB of JSON) whenever any fire's record changed, which was most refreshes. A refresh now fetches only the fires' details (about 8 KB); outlines, simplified to about 100 m, are fetched again only when a perimeter changes. Zoomed in to 11 or closer, the fires in view get their full outline.
• Docs and editor text corrected — the DWD wind models are global ICON with a new run every 6 hours (not ICON-D2 every 3), NDFD wind reaches about 3 days (not 7+), and Lightning is global. CARTO styles now credit "© OpenStreetMap contributors".

Fixed

• The editor left a YAML history value above its 12-hour list unselected — it now lists it, labelled with what the card plays.

Earlier in 3.12.0

• 3.12.0-beta2: breaking — without a CARTO key, map_style: Auto uses Home Assistant's map tiles (add a free carto_api_key to keep CARTO's look); NOAA radar in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Guam; US wind speeds corrected (were about 1.9× too strong); steady 5- and 10-minute NOAA loops.
• 3.12.0-beta1: DWD forecast tiles survive a reload, relative times on every frame, hatched forecast segments and stale-data cues, history loads before the forecast, and a © Sources popup on narrow cards.
