github jpettitt/weather-radar-card v3.12.0-beta1
3.12.0-beta1

pre-release3 hours ago

Beta pre-release. DWD forecast tiles now survive a reload, every frame shows how old (or how far ahead) it is, and narrow cards get a tidier footer. Drop-in upgrade from 3.11.0 — no config changes required.

What's new

  • DWD forecast tiles survive a reload — after a reload or a dashboard switch, the card shows the forecast from the last run it used (at most 30 minutes old) straight away, then fetches the newest run in the background. With forecast_refresh_minutes off, the frames then keep that run, as before. In testing, a reloaded 2 h history + 2 h forecast loop played after 6.5 s and was complete after 12 s, from 18 tile requests; its first, uncached load took 69 s and 196. Requested by @m42cel (#279).
  • Relative times — every frame says how far back or ahead it is: 15 minutes ago, 1:20 hours ago, Forecast · in 25 minutes, worded in Home Assistant's language the way HA's own relative times are.
  • Forecast and stale-data cues — forecast segments of the progress bar are hatched. If the newest radar data is older than the source should ever lag (DWD 20 min, NOAA 20, RainViewer 25), the time shows an amber ⚠ N min old; after a reload, forecast frames say updating… until the newest run is in.
  • Narrow cards (≤ 397 px) move the map credits behind a © Sources button that opens them in a small popup, leaving the footer to the time.

Changed

  • History loads before the forecast — frames load one at a time from "now", and the forecast used to come next, so a cached history loop waited behind DWD's slower forecast requests on every reload.
  • DWD forecast frames are always pinned to a nowcast run, with or without forecast_refresh_minutes, so their tiles can be cached. The tile requests gain a DIM_REFERENCE_TIME parameter; what they show doesn't change.

Earlier

3.11.0 added the MapTiles and Custom map styles, radar tile caching, forecast_refresh_minutes and low_power_mode.
