Edit templates from the visual editor, and reuse them across all your dashboards! This has been one of the most requested features for a long time, and I've put a lot of work into making it fit naturally into the visual editor 🙂

Warning

This is a beta. I've tested it extensively on my own setup, but the visual editor was rebuilt almost from scratch, and templates now save data to Home Assistant. Some bugs might show up, so please report anything weird you find 🙏

Shared templates

Templates used to live in each dashboard's YAML and only worked on that dashboard (#270, #289, #213). Now you can save any navbar as a template from the visual editor and use it on any dashboard. Edit it once, and every navbar using it updates.

Navbar-card can now save and manage its own data directly in Home Assistant, without editing YAML. Since custom cards don't have their own persistent storage, templates are stored in a dedicated dashboard. It's a bit hacky, I know, but it's the best solution I've found.

Important

Saving your first shared template automatically creates a hidden dashboard named Navbar Card templates [don't delete]. Don't delete it, or you'll lose your shared templates.

Existing YAML templates still work, but are now deprecated. To make one shared, click Move to shared templates in the editor of any navbar using it.

Redesigned visual editor

The editor is now organized in five sections, and each route or popup item opens in its own view, where you choose what it does when tapped: navigate, open a popup or run an action.

Options you change on a navbar that uses a template are now marked, and you can reset them one by one from their ⋮ menu, which also has a link to each option's documentation and the JavaScript template toggle.

  • JavaScript template toggle and documentation link moved to each field's ⋮ menu.
  • Color fields now use Home Assistant's native color picker.
