Gzip-compressed responses and quieter health borders — text responses now compress on the wire so pages transfer 70-90% smaller, and the health page gets the same border cleanup as config in v2026.07.10.1.

Performance

  • new Gzip response compression — a stdlib compress/gzip middleware now transparently compresses text responses (HTML, JS, CSS, JSON, SVG) for clients that send Accept-Encoding: gzip. Typical assets shrink ~70-90% (e.g. search.js ~98 KB → ~19 KB, config HTML ~255 KB → ~30 KB), with Vary: Accept-Encoding set and already-compressed types (woff2, png, ico, jpg) skipped. No new dependency; a sync.Pool reuses compressors. 304/no-gzip/binary paths verified unaffected (gzip.go, main.go).
  • fix Deferred config tour scripts — the ten config guided-tour scripts (config-tour-runtime + nine config-*-tour.js, ~374 KB) were render-blocking despite only running on interaction; they now defer, dropping render-blocking config scripts from 80 to 70. Verified safe: tour globals are consumed only lazily and ConfigManager instantiates on DOMContentLoaded after deferred scripts run — the General tour still launches normally (templates/config.html).
  • fix Deferred peripheral dashboard scripts — eleven interaction/after-load feature scripts (weather, tag-autocomplete, quick-add, swipe-navigation, hypr-mode, reorder, app-notification, inbox-intro-modal, dashboard-tag-cloud, dashboard-deep-link, shortcut-format, ~107 KB) now defer, dropping render-blocking dashboard scripts from 69 to 58. Every consumer reads these via guarded access inside init (which runs on DOMContentLoaded), so the features are unchanged (templates/dashboard.html).

Dashboard

  • fix Line-style inbox icon — the dashboard inbox tab now uses an inline monochrome SVG (currentColor, matched to the header health icon) instead of the coloured 📥 emoji, so the two read as one visual family across themes (dashboard-page-nav.js, dashboard-inbox.css).

Health appearance

  • fix Fewer, softer borders — the health page framed the intro, every KPI stat tile, the filter/controls panel, and the bookmark panel at once. A central --health-border / --health-border-soft token pair now keeps softer borders on the stat tiles and outer panels, drops the intro frame (spacing instead), and softens internal row/toolbar/group dividers and the empty-state dashed border. Filters, pills, the active-tile highlight, and action buttons stay crisp (health.css).

Developer & docs

  • fix README, MANUAL, CHANGELOG & Config Helpv2026.07.10.2 notes.
  • fix What's new modalv2026.07.10.2 JSON entry.
  • fix Cache-bustwhats-new-v143 data version and 2026.07-dashboard-release-v107 dashboard release token; quiet-borders-1 health CSS, config-tours-defer-1 config tour scripts, and inbox-svg-icon-1 inbox asset query strings; dashboard peripheral scripts deferred in place.

Scope: the border cleanup is classic layout only; the modern/glass early-beta layouts are unchanged. Gzip applies to all pages.
