Config

fix — the sub-tab labels under Structure were lowercase. categories · pages · finders · collections sat beside Bookmarks' List · Tags · Tag suggestions, which are capitalised, and the strip read as two designs on one screen. The five locale strings behind them carry a capital now; the breadcrumb lowercases what it shows, so config › structure › finders is unchanged.
new — Pages & tags is Structure, and Tags is a Bookmarks tab. The section holds what a collection is filed in — pages, categories, finders, collections — and a tag is not that: it is a word a bookmark carries, which is why the other tag panels (suggestions, your rules) were already under Bookmarks and this one sat a section away from them. Tags now sits between List and Tag suggestions, keeping its word cloud, its filter and its ↑/↓ row cursor rather than taking on the j/k of the bookmark list beside it. The section's new name is one word, like every other name in the rail: Pages & tags described two of its five tabs, and with Tags gone it described one of four. Links handed out before this keep working: #config/pages-tags lands on the renamed section, #config/pages-tags/tags on the tab in its new home, and /config?section=tags redirects to #config/bookmarks/tags. The address bar is rewritten to the current name, so the next link copied is the new one.
new — Appearance sits above Bookmarks in the rail. It moved under Bookmarks in v1.3.3, when the rail was ordered by how often a section is opened. Ordered that way it is in the wrong half: Appearance, Structure and Behavior say what the dashboard is, and Bookmarks is the collection it shows. Appearance now opens the list of the three, and the deep links are unaffected — the rail's order is not part of any address.
fix — a long section name wrapped the rail button onto two lines. The rail is a fixed 200px column, so a name never widened it — it broke across lines, and one two-line button in a column of one-line buttons makes the whole rail look ragged. Every translation of a name is a different length, so rather than keeping each one short enough for the widest language, a button now holds itself to one line and shortens with an ellipsis, with the full name on hover.
fix — every deep link into a Bookmarks tab opened List. subTabFromHash refused the section outright, because the segment after /bookmarks/ is usually a page filter and reading a page id as a tab name would have opened a tab that does not exist. A page id is a number and a tab is a word from a known list, so the two can be told apart — #config/bookmarks/settings, /local-copies and the rest now arrive where they say, and a reload keeps the tab it was on.
fix — the finder rows split their width three ways, so the URL was the field you could not read. Name, search URL and shortcut each flexed to an equal share, which left the URL — the only long value of the three, and the one you check for %s — cut off after about thirty characters while the shortcut box sat two-thirds empty for a key of at most five letters. The URL now takes the slack (flex: 4), the name is capped at 150px and the shortcut at 72px; below roughly 700px the row still wraps as before.

Dashboard

fix — a bookmark whose shortcut starts with c could not be reached by typing it. Bare c added a category, and it did so unconditionally: the handler stopped the event dead, so the shortcut search never saw the letter. That is one twenty-sixth of the alphabet spent on an action taken a few times a day, in an app whose main gesture is typing a shortcut. Adding a category is Shift + N now, beside the other Shift actions (Shift + B adds a bookmark, Shift + W sets a width), and every letter starts a search again.

Appearance

new — the glow under a raised surface reaches almost every theme, and the config view at last. It was built for the four character themes and 132 of the 222 built-in themes derived to exactly zero: the formula multiplied by how dark the page is, so all 109 light themes were flat by arithmetic rather than by choice, and 23 quiet dark ones fell out on accent chroma. themeSurfaceGlow now has two branches. On a dark page it is the halo it always was, floored at 0.15 and capped at 0.60 instead of 0.45. On a light page the ground term inverts and the glow is spent as an accent-tinted shadow under the surface, floored at 0.12 and capped at 0.35 — light around a surface on paper is a smudge, which is why light themes were written off in the first place. Which of the two geometries a theme uses arrives as --theme-glow-lift, a number rather than a word, because CSS can compute with a number and cannot match a word. Nocturne Ink, Porcelain, Paper Ink, Bone China and Salt Flat declare -1 and stay flat, and prefers-contrast: more sets the glow to zero for the same reason it already flattens the tint.
fix — in the classic layout the config view had no glow at all, whichever theme was picked. The glow rides two tokens, and every consumer of --layout-shadow-* sits inside a body[data-layout-version="modern"] rule — 58 of them in config-view.css alone — so in classic those tokens resolved to nothing and the panels carried no shadow to hang it on. Eight surfaces that classic left without a box-shadow now paint the accent layer and nothing else: config tiles, panels and choice rows, the search container, the list-view summary and groups, the quickstart card and the health monitor stats. No grey base shadow comes with it — classic stays classic, with colour under its surfaces rather than a second modern layout. The repeating rows (feed rows, inbox items, health items, CRUD rows) are deliberately left out: fifty glowing rows in a column is noise, not depth.
fix — the glow scaled its own geometry, so the softest ones were invisible. Strength multiplied the offset and the blur as well as the colour, which at the new floor of 0.12 shrank a 6px shadow to 0.7px — precisely the themes this was meant to reach. Strength now decides how strong the glow is and not how large, and at zero the colour is fully transparent, so a theme that asked for none still paints nothing.

docs — the release round for v1.9.0. static/data/whats-new/v1.9.0.json and the index entry ahead of it, both tokens in whats-new-stub.js (DASHBOARD_RELEASE, NEXTDASH_WHATS_NEW_DATA_VERSION → whats-new-v284) and the constants they are pinned with in tests/whats-new-hidden-release.spec.js. Three spotlights with since: "v1.9.0" in overview-features.json — the section rename, the theme glow, and c going back to search — each with its five locale keys in all six languages, so the overview stream and About → News & features carry the release rather than yesterday's. helpVersionBody names 1.9.0 in six languages, MANUAL.md tags what changed, and go generate refreshed asset_hashes_gen.go.
docs — the cheat sheet follows the keys and the sections that moved. The ! modal, the printable sheet and both PDFs are regenerated from the registry, so Shift + N is on paper as well as on screen; the config rows no longer say Pages & tags, and the tag filter is listed where the Tags tab now is. Help's Config navigation had that filter on a Structure tab it no longer sits on.
docs — Help and the manual describe the config that exists. Help's rail list named a section that had been renamed and put it in the old order, its Bookmarks page counted five tabs where there are six, and the tag panel still sent you to the section Tags had left. The manual pointed at config → pages & tags in ten places. All of it in six languages, except the release notes, which say what shipped at the time and are left alone.
docs — the second gallery in Emerald Matrix [dark] is gone from the README. Its ten files were removed from screenshots/emerald-matrix/ without the block that pointed at them, so the fold held ten broken images on the published page. The <details> section goes with the files; the ten shots above it are untouched.
repo — every screenshot ever committed is out of the git history. screenshots/ had been in the tree since the initial commit, and 89 blobs totalling 178 MB were still reachable from main, dev, the other branches and all 314 tags — including captures of a real dashboard that were added and removed again the same day. A git filter-repo --path screenshots/ --invert-paths pass rewrites all refs; the packed repository drops from 209 MB to 29 MB and the file trees are byte-identical apart from that directory. Every commit SHA changed, and the commits that touched nothing but screenshots are gone rather than left empty.
docs — the README screenshots are from the app as it is now. The nine shots dated from before the theme browser, the search overlay, the statistics tabs and the bookmark manager's tabs, and two of them showed widgets that no longer exist. Ten new captures replace them, taken against a real collection rather than a seeded one, and named after what they show rather than numbered — the Unraid template lists the same files.
