github jordibrouwer/nextdash v1.17.2

latest releases: v1.17.4, v1.17.3

A Notes widget with Markdown and checkboxes, pages that can be shared as template files, quiet hours and reminders for alerts, a Trend tab and more figures in Collection health, a daily anonymous install count (with its own switch), and a corner card and a banner that point at the feature overview. Plus uptime badges, a Retry for a stopped feed, and inbox links in search.

Widgets

  • new — a Notes widget (dashboard-widget-notes.js, notes-markdown.js, notes-slash.js, notes-modal.js, notes_markdown.go, notes_commands.go). One text of up to 6,000 characters, kept in the widget and read as a small Markdown: headings, bullet and numbered lists, quotes, tables, code, bold, italic and links. A line that starts with [ ] is a checkbox that is ticked on the tile; ticking rewrites that one line and finds it again by its text if the note changed in another tab. Edit opens a plain editor with / commands (date, time, uuid, upper, lower, title, todo, h1, code, table); Open large adds a toolbar and a live preview. Drawn two columns wide the tile shows the length and the tasks done. New installs, and existing ones, get an example note with a checklist on the first page.
  • new — where notes are processed is a setting. Config → Behavior → General → Notes widget: On the server (the default, /api/widgets/notes/render and /command) or In the browser, which needs no request while you type. Both engines answer from the same fixtures (tests/fixtures/notes-markdown-cases.json, notes-command-cases.json). When the server cannot be reached the tile shows the plain text and says so.
  • new — Retry on a stopped feed. A feed that failed five times is retired until you do something; the Feeds widget now shows it with Retry, which tries it again now (POST /api/feeds/retry) instead of waiting for tomorrow (feeds.go, dashboard-widget-feeds.js).

Pages

  • new — a page as a template file. Share this page… in the page switcher, Save as template… in Structure → Pages, or the palette, writes the layout, categories, widgets and links to a file; Import a page… or Start from a template… on an empty page reads one. Addresses on your own network become names the importer fills in once per service; usage, health, sign-ins and every field not on the allowlist stay out, notes only when ticked, and importing always makes a new page (page_template.go, dashboard-config.js, dashboard-page-nav.js, search-commands.js).

Health and alerts

  • new — Collection health has three tabs. Overview gains a row of key figures and four cards (Fix first, When last checked, How often opened, Why they fail); Monitors gets a row of fleet figures; the Trend tab holds the 90-day chart with its figures beside it, every monitor per day with its own figures, and uptime by weekday (dashboard-bookmarks-health-modal.js).
  • new — quiet hours and reminders (notify_quiet.go). During a window, notices from monitors, containers, Unraid and backups are held and one summary says what still plays and what recovered when it ends; an expired certificate, a mass outage and a failed backup always pass (a container crash can be added). A monitor or container that stays down gets a reminder after 15 minutes to 4 hours, at most 1 to 5 times, never inside quiet hours. Outgoing webhooks are outside both, and a test counts the callers of the two sinks so a fifth cannot skip the gate.
  • new — uptime badges. GET /badge/uptime.svg?url=…&days=7|30 returns a small SVG for monitored addresses; anything else reads no data. Off by default (Behavior → Status & alerts → Checks on the server), because anyone who knows a monitored address can read it (health_badge.go).
  • fix — background re-checks are on by default. The setting started off, so a fresh install's Health view only moved when a dashboard was open. It is on for new installs and for existing ones that never set it (models.go, with the missing-key entry in GetSettings).

Privacy

  • new — a daily install count. Once a day the server sends a random install id (the file install-id in the data folder) and the release tag to stats.nextdash.cc, so the project can say how many installs exist; nothing else. It has its own switch under Behavior → Privacy & sync → Count this install, on by default, and DISABLE_TELEMETRY=true stops it for the whole server (install_ping.go).
  • fix — the analytics texts no longer say "no request leaves your machine". With analytics off the install count is still sent; usageAnalyticsHint and the notice say so, in all six languages.

Dashboard

  • new — a corner card and a banner for the feature overview. After eight bookmarks and a short wait, one card points at nextdash.cc/features (it opens in a new tab and is asked once); Config → Overview has a slim banner with the same link (features-notice.js).
  • new — Config lists the corner cards. Behavior → Privacy & sync → Onboarding shows each card as Answered or Not shown yet, with Show again (dashboard-config.js).
  • new — search finds links waiting in the inbox. A name search shows matching inbox items in their own group at the end; snoozed ones stay out (search.js).
  • new — the Inbox icon says how many links are kept in its tooltip and label (dashboard-page-nav.js).
  • new — the Bookmarks view shows which bookmarks run in a container. A cube follows the title of a bookmark that is a container's web UI, in the container's state — green running, amber paused or restarting, grey stopped — and links to that container's side panel. The match is DockerSearchIndex.containersFor, the one the Containers view and the Details tab's "Runs in" already use; the cubes are filled once the container list is in, and stay away when Containers is switched off or has no socket (fillWorkbenchContainers in dashboard-config-bookmarks-workbench.js, called from bindBookmarkRows; config-bookmarks-workbench.css).
  • fix — the Inbox and Containers rails are as wide as the Bookmarks rail (list-view-shell.css).
  • fix — the selection bars share one list of actions. The dashboard's bar and the Bookmarks view's drew different buttons for the same bookmarks; both now come from bulk-actions.js, the dashboard's bar gains Fetch icons and Fetch previews, and bulk-sweep.js is the one loop that walks a selection with the progress bar and rate-limit handling (bulk-actions-parity.spec.js).
  • new — cheat sheet keys for writing in a Notes widget (save and cancel).

Docs

  • docs — static/data/whats-new/v1.17.2.json and its index entry, with the dashboard's selection bar under Dashboard; whats-new-stub.js's NEXTDASH_WHATS_NEW_DATA_VERSION moved to whats-new-v318 and DASHBOARD_RELEASE to v1.17.2, so the window opens once. go generate refreshed asset_hashes_gen.go.
  • docs — Config → Help: helpLibraryBody describes the container cube in the Bookmarks view, helpCollectionHealthBody and helpHealthStatsBody the three tabs, helpWidgetKindsBody the Notes widget and Retry, helpHealthMaintenanceBody quiet hours, reminders and uptime badges, helpWorkspaceBody page templates, helpStatsPrivacyBody the install count, and helpBehaviorBody the corner cards, in all six languages; the Notes widget and the other new settings have their strings in en.json and the five translations.
  • docs — Manual and README: Notes (§15), page templates (§9.8), quiet hours, reminders and uptime badges (§12.5), corner cards and the install count, Collection health's three tabs (§11.8).
  • docs — the Unraid theme screenshots left the repository. screenshots/unraid-themes/ (64 images) is removed and listed in .gitignore; the README keeps its two Unraid screenshots in screenshots/.
