Features and fixes for Android phones, tablets, and Android TV.

New

  • A rebuilt Live TV guide. The guide grid was rewritten from the ground up: rows draw in a single pass, the D-pad responds in a frame (per-press frame time p50 22 ms, p95 42 ms on a Google TV Streamer, down from 73 to 121 ms and 400 to 550 ms), and focus never gets lost. Schedule gaps are selectable "No info" cells, held Left opens your groups without moving the timeline, focus walks down to the seventh row before the guide scrolls, and Back restores now, then the top channel, and never closes the app.
  • Guide data lands on the right channel. Every channel has one stable identity resolved when the guide is fetched. Programs can no longer appear on the wrong channel when two sources share a number, blanks no longer appear after an upstream guide feed loads, and the guide no longer refetches itself while you are in it. Unchanged upstream feeds are skipped with a conditional request.
  • Guide cells and menus match Apple TV. Cells show the episode subtitle, description, time, season and episode pill, and Live, New and Repeat badges. The long-press menu offers Favorites, Multiview, Add to Collection, Program Info and Record from Now in a compact card. Media keys, channel keys and held Left or Right follow your remote map.
  • Keep Recent Channels Live. Recently watched channels can stay buffered in the background so switching back is instant; the Live TV tab shows an indicator while channels are retained.
  • DVR end-of-recording flow. A Recording Ending prompt lets you extend or finish, playback resumes with a tap, and recordings keep their watch progress in sync across devices.
  • Multiview renders through the display hardware. Tiles now use SurfaceView, so the four decoders are composed by the TV's display processor instead of the app's own frame: on a Google TV Streamer the grid holds a steady 60 fps with zero dropped frames once the streams settle, where the old path showed every other frame. Tiles also gain a Playback submenu and Change Channel, a channel held live in the background is released when it becomes a tile (it used to fail to start with a server 503), and the exit menu is cleaner.
  • Open source. AerioTV for Android is licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later, with an in-app licenses screen.

Fixed

  • The active playlist no longer flips when another device's Drive sync snapshot arrives; the local choice wins.
  • The record dot in the guide matches the channel's identity, never the program title.
  • A guide feed may only delete the time span it actually delivered, so upstream layering can no longer wipe grid rows.
  • An empty guide fetch never wipes the guide or its cache.
  • The password reveal button is reachable with a remote (GH #79).
  • MPEG-2 channels (OTA and HDHomeRun) show what to configure on the server; see the README section on Stream Profiles.
  • Legacy URL-keyed watch-progress rows are skipped on Drive sync apply.

Install

Sideload AerioTV-0.4.21.apk. The Play build is updater-free; if you switch from a sideloaded build to Play, uninstall first.
