AerioTV 0.2.6
This release rebuilds the Android TV experience end to end and adds rich TMDB metadata across On Demand.
Rich TMDB data (optional, bring your own free key)
- Cast & Crew row with photos on movie and series pages: real names and character names. Select any person for a biography popup with their photo, birth date, birthplace, and life story.
- "Known For" strip in every biography showing the person's most notable movies and shows. If a title is in your library, selecting it jumps straight to it; press Back to return to where you were.
- A small QR code in the biography opens the actor's full TMDB page on your phone.
- Missing plot, genre, cast, or director on a title? AerioTV now fills the gaps from TMDB. Your server's own data always wins; TMDB only fills holes.
- Everything here is opt-in: add your own free TMDB API key under Settings > App Behaviors > Program Posters.
QR codes for external links (a TV has no browser)
- Trailer and View on TMDB on movie and series pages now show a scannable QR code on TV.
- Trailers can also play directly in the YouTube app when it is installed: pressing Trailer offers "Play in YouTube" or "Show QR Code".
- Settings > About: Developer Website and Report an Issue show QR codes on TV instead of doing nothing.
On Demand
- Series groups now populate from Dispatcharr, so Manage Groups can show and hide your real categories. Movies had the same bug; both are fixed.
- Opening a search result no longer says "Series not found" or "Movie not found" for titles beyond the first browse pages.
- Browsing is steadier: no more vertical jump when moving left and right across posters.
- The top bar and the Movies/Series pills fade away as you scroll down so more of the library fits on screen; they come back at the top.
- One press of Back from deep in the grid returns to the top-left title.
- Continue Watching cards show their posters (with TMDB fallback) and support long-press to remove.
- Series pages can scroll all the way back up to the title, rating, and poster.
- Movies, series episodes, and DVR recordings can fast-forward, rewind, and pause with accelerated scrubbing on TV.
Multiview
- Long-press any tile for a menu: full-screen in grid, spotlight, audio and subtitle tracks, move, remove.
- Pressing Back now asks "Back to TV Guide" or "Exit Multiview" instead of doing nothing.
- The staged-channels banner on the guide gained a Clear button.
- Smoother playback with several tiles running at once.
A better TV experience everywhere
- Long-press menus no longer auto-select the first option when you release the button.
- Phone-style bottom sheets were replaced with centered TV dialogs across the app.
- The on-screen keyboard only opens when you press OK on a field, never covers what you are typing, and the D-pad can always leave a field.
- Every Settings form and submenu got proper focus highlights; Save, Edit, and Delete live in the content instead of hidden corner buttons.
- Program Info fits the screen.
- Moving up to the navigation bar always lands on the tab you are currently in.
- Playlist details show whether you are connected over LAN or WAN, with live feedback on Test Connection and both Refresh buttons, plus clearer source-type labels.
- The playlist LAN URL now survives Google Drive sync.
Fixes
- Closing the mini-player with X no longer leaves audio playing in the background.
- "Skip for now" works during onboarding.
- Signing in with Google during onboarding shows a staged restore progress screen.
Updater note: if you installed 0.2.4 or 0.2.5 from GitHub, AerioTV will offer this update automatically, or check manually in Settings > App Updates. Your channels, settings, and recordings are kept.
Play Store note: if you installed AerioTV from Google Play, uninstall it before sideloading this APK. Play builds are signed with a different key, so Android will refuse to install this APK over a Play install (and a Play update over a sideloaded install). Uninstalling clears local data; if Google Drive sync is enabled, your playlists and settings restore on next sign-in.
