On October 2, 2025, issue #328 "Allow Manual Sort in Subfolders" was posted on the Notebook Navigator GitHub repo. And now it is finally here! Sorry it took so long, but this was a complex one and I wanted to get it right. Thank you for using Notebook Navigator and see you in the Discord!

New

• Folders, tags and properties can now be reordered at every level by dragging in Reorder navigation, where right-clicking an item offers Manual sort, A to Z, Z to A and Default.
• Tags and properties can now be grouped by Folder in the sort menu, which lists each note under its parent folder.
• New commands Open next periodic note and Open previous periodic note open the note for the next or previous day, week, month, quarter or year from the active periodic note, and create the note when it is missing.
• New command Open parent periodic note opens the weekly note of the active daily note, the monthly note of a weekly note, and so on up to the yearly note.

Improved

• Increased the maximum of Item height in the navigation pane and Compact item height in the list pane from 28 to 40 pixels.
• Added a sync toggle to Default list mode, so you can use compact mode on your phone to show more notes at a time and keep standard mode on your desktop.

Changed

• Changed property sorting to match Obsidian Bases: links with an alias sort by the alias, and notes missing a checkbox property sort together with unchecked notes.
• Raised the minimum Obsidian version to 1.13.

Fixed

• Searching the Vault tab of the icon picker now lists the closest matches first, so SVG icons with short file names no longer drop out of the 50 shown results #1526.
• The icon picker now shows how many icons matched when a search on the Vault, Lucide, or Emoji tab has more than 50 results.
• Tag, date, folder, and file suggestions now list the closest matches first.
• Feature images larger than 60 megapixels are now skipped on mobile instead of reloading Obsidian while thumbnails are generated #1527.
• Icons that other plugins add to Obsidian, such as Custom Icons, are now saved to frontmatter when picked, shown when set in frontmatter, and kept in File name icon map, File type icon map, and Interface icons #1531.
• Icons from another plugin now show in Notebook Navigator menus and in the calendar tab header.
• Exporting settings on Android and iOS now saves the JSON file to the vault root with Save to vault, where Download saved no file #1537.
• Calendar settings now show a warning under Locale and Weekly notes when the weekly notes pattern makes the calendar start weeks on Monday regardless of locale, or gives weekly notes paths that do not match the calendar #1540.
• Daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly note patterns now show a warning when they take the year from a week year such as gggg or GGGG, which gives dates near New Year the wrong year.
• Settings you change on one computer are now kept when you start Obsidian on another computer with Zoom level not synced.
• Sorting notes by a property now orders negative and decimal numbers by value, with -222 before -202 and 1.25 before 1.5 #1552.
