fm1-dock 0.8: four new synths, a lighter Scintilla, and a page to test MIDI.
Built from source and signed on GitHub by the Firmware Hub's shared workflow (zvenson/fm1-build): every .fwsc here carries a build attestation (gh attestation verify fm1-dock-0.8.fwsc -R joakimeriksson/fm1-dock --signer-repo zvenson/fm1-build).
Install
Open the page in Chrome or Edge, press Connect over USB, then Install fm1-dock. Coming from an earlier fm1-dock, your added modules, settings and presets stay. Then add the new synths from the catalog with one click.

Four new synths
Each is its author's own code, taken by a take.py and changed only where a module's 272 KiB of RAM needs it. Add them from the page.
| by | changed for the dock | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| PROPHET | Kerem Kilic (Melodee) | A Prophet-5 Rev 4: band-limited oscillators, Poly-Mod, two filter characters, glide, unison and Vintage; eight voices, half on the second core. INIT and eight patches of its own | Sequential's factory programs are not included (no licence granted): send your own bank with tools/dock.py send
|
| B3 ORGAN | R-Jeb, its organ model after setBfree | A tonewheel organ: 91 wheels, nine drawbars, key click, vibrato and chorus, percussion, overdrive, reverb and a Leslie; setBfree's programs and MIDI controllers | its buffers in the module's RAM, no battery reading |
| Niagara Drift | Evan Yerburgh | Two virtual-analog drones that breathe and drift, scenes on the white keys that the keys' pressure glides into, gestures, an LFO, a delay and a reverb | the delay reaches 270 ms (450), the knob loop keeps 2048 events (4096) |
| ARTIHIVE | KHAV | Eight FM voices in four pairs, DRONE or POLY, a Hyper LFO, a two-line delay, an arpeggiator | the delay reaches 1 s (2 s), the six textured themes in their plain colour |
The add-ons share 296 KiB of flash on an FM-1; the page's meter shows what fits, and now also what would no longer fit after the one you point at. Niagara Drift is large (156 KiB).
All four were played on an FM-1 with both cores running, at their worst: ARTIHIVE 64 % of a block, PROPHET 53 %, Niagara Drift 33 %, no overruns.
A lighter Scintilla
Scintilla's engine is now built for speed: in fm1-emu's strict timing, its heaviest factory patches dropped from 59 % to 49 % of a block (High Portamento's chords) and from 54 % to 49 % (Ring mod.). The module is 58 KiB instead of 90, with the 80 factory patches packed. On an FM-1, with both cores: at worst 46 % of a block on the first core and 35 % on the second, no overruns.
Test MIDI
Test MIDI plays the FM-1 from Chrome or Edge over USB or Bluetooth (no Audio MIDI Setup, and no driver on Windows), shows everything it sends back, and tests its TRS MIDI jack: with MIDI THRU ON, notes go out of a USB-MIDI interface into the jack and are timed as they come back over USB.
Also
- The Firmware Hub: every module's card links its own firmware there, and the README and page link fm1-dock's.
- The EQ is held after a safe boot (OCT+) or a failed boot, as Bluetooth is: an EQ saved ON that misbehaved can no longer lock you out.
- The catalog filters by kind of sound (analog, digital & chip, ambient & texture, keys & acoustic), shows each add-on's size, and can mark the ones not yet played on a real FM-1.
- The page finds the FM-1 on Windows (#50): its MIDI ports are paired however Windows names them, and a port that another program holds (the Firmware Hub's tab, a DAW) is named as such instead of "no FM-1 answered".
- Bluetooth on Windows, iPhone and Android: how to connect, in the README.
Thanks
Kerem Kilic (Melodee) for the Prophet-5 engine; R-Jeb (B3 ORGAN) and setBfree's authors; Evan Yerburgh (Niagara Drift); KHAV (ARTIHIVE). And everyone from 0.7: w0ts (Optimist), Charles Vestal, Leo Kuroshita (Felucca), PatttF, Adam Sowers, npi3pak, sbegueria, twochannels and zvenson. Licences and credits: LICENSING.md.
Known limits
- B3 ORGAN with every effect on and ten notes struck at the same instant reached 94 % of a block in fm1-emu's strict timing; normal playing is under 75 %.
- Niagara Drift (156 KiB), DUB-1, MONK-1, FM-1 SID and GATOR are large: with one of them added, only smaller ones fit.
- The free room can be split: the meter's total may be enough while its largest piece is not (Niagara Drift beside PROPHET leaves too little in one piece for B3 ORGAN). Remove an add-on to join the pieces; 0.9 packs them together.
- The Windows fix is built from how Windows names MIDI ports, not yet tried on a Windows PC: tell us in #50 if Connect still finds nothing.
Coming in 0.9: the open dock
Every synth removable, about 500 KiB for add-ons instead of 296, and packs on the page (Analog, Digital & chip, Ambient & texture, Keys & acoustic) to fill your FM-1 in one click.
