rEFInd_GUI 3.5.8
Fixed
- Installers no longer depend on wget. Every download in
install-rEFInd-GUI.shandrefind_install_Sourceforge.shnow tries curl first and falls back to wget. On distros that ship curl but no wget (Omarchy, for one) the GUI installer's barewgetcall failed, so it silently fell back to a full localmakepkgbuild while reporting "No release package available" for a release whose package was fine, and the SourceForge rEFInd installer aborted outright. The SourceForge script now checks for a downloader and an extractor (unzip, elsebsdtar) before touching the network and names the missing tool, and the fallback messages say the package could not be downloaded.curlandunzipare runtime dependencies of the deb, rpm and Arch packages. - ARM64 drivers keep their real names on the ESP. 3.5.3 through 3.5.7 renamed the ARM64 builds of the controller and touchscreen drivers to the x86-64 names (
drivers_aa64/UsbXbox360Dxe.efi), which read as wrong-architecture files. All three install scripts (Linux SourceForge, Linux package-manager, Windows) now installUsbXbox360Dxe_aa64.efiandTouchI2cDxe_aa64.efiunder their release names, delete the legacy copy (and, on Linux, its sbctl database entry), and print what they installed. rEFInd loads every.efiin the folder regardless of name, so nothing else changes. - Readable terminal window. Install rEFInd and the randomizer toggles open xterm with a scalable font at the GUI's own point size (11 pt floor) and a 110x40 window, instead of xterm's 13 px bitmap default that was unreadable on HiDPI displays.
Changed
- sbctl signing also runs with Secure Boot disabled. Whenever
sbctl statusreports its keys installed, both Linux installers runsbctl-batch-signafter writing the ESP, so the files are already signed the moment Secure Boot is switched on andsbctl verifystays clean. With Secure Boot enforcing, a missing signer or a failed sign is still fatal; with it disabled they only warn.sbctl-batch-signnow skips database entries whose file no longer exists instead of aborting the whole run.
Notes
- If a 3.5.3–3.5.7 install left
drivers_aa64/UsbXbox360Dxe.efiorTouchI2cDxe.efion an ARM64 machine, those were the correct ARM64 builds (sbctl signing adds about 2 KB, so their size never matched the release asset). Re-running Install rEFInd replaces them with the_aa64-named copies. - The GUI runs the install scripts from
~/.local/rEFInd_GUI, which the installer refreshes from this release tag.
Upgrading
Re-run the installer for your platform, or just update the deb, rpm or Arch package:
curl -L https://github.com/jlobue10/rEFInd_GUI/raw/main/install-rEFInd-GUI.sh | bash
