Release Notes: v1.6.1
What's New
- controller support tested and working on both platforms for gameplay, test out the app on your android handhelds now!
- fixed rescan library on every home page visit
- added manual rescan library to settings (try this if 1.6 messed with your library)
- added pull from top to refresh in library.
- File transparency: All app files will be stored in 'Documents/Pocket8' for Android and 'On My iPhone > Pocket8' for iOS.
- (android) added import existing folder for those with existing game libraries. this indexes the game locations from your external folders to the app's library.
- added file/library cleaning settings: clear external games, factory reset library.
- fixes to controller support on home page- should be fully navigable with controller.
- css optimizations for dpad, attempting to address issue #16 but still need feedback for those on older iOS hardware.
- visual branding updates to align with PICO-8 licensing and aesthetics
- in-player: REMOVED home button, as SELECT button serves the same purpose
- updated build number for accuracy (10) and signed the android apk
Known Issues & Future Plans:
these are high priority issues that im working on asap.
- further improving controller latency - it works decently for most games, but youre not gonna be performing pixel perfect frame dashes in celeste just yet. theres some web engine limitations with this that i'm still experimenting against.
- i've only confirmed working Xbox/Dualsense/Gamesir controllers. Nintendo layouts are a bit funky still, I believe.
- want to implement drag and hold to paste p8.png images straight to library and, in general, easier ways to get from finding a cart -> playing.
- filesystem is a bit hacky still as i'm new to scoped storage on the android side, putting everything in Documents/Pocket8 aims to bring the most transparency as possible, but im still working on it!
- much more :o check issues!
Dev Note:
hey guys, apologies for the delayed update. I wanted to get this out ASAP despite the known issues as I feel controller support was a big one that allows for the community to play on a lot more of their devices. this fix aims to add more polish to the layouts across all screen sizes and make the app more snappy before i make the big jump to the official runtime provided by zep on the ios side. theres still some scoped storage complications im dealing with, so please bare with me for that!
i returned to school last monday for my final semester, so updates will roll out a bit more slowly as im prepping for my grad school interviews and whatnot. i'll still be making continuous updates and aim to make this experience as great as possible. we've just hit over 2k total downloads and im wonderfully grateful to have a community benefit from my work- especially those who take the time to open issues and actually hope to see out the future of pocket8.
thanks everyone for the support towards this project!!
