v1.6 - Gamepad (Setup), QoL, UI

pre-release4 days ago

KNOWN ISSUE: Physical controllers are currently still broken in this build. Directory fixes are working. Recommended for touch-screen users only

Hey everyone, v1.6 is live.

I got a hold of an Android device to test with, which brought a lot of bugs to my immediate attention. I’ve done some work cleaning up the codebase to make this actually usable on devices like the Retroid, Thor, Ayaneo.

Just to be transparent: Since I'm working with Zep on the official iOS release, the Android version is going to remain an unofficial side project. However, I still want it to be a quality experience for those of you using it, so I'm pushing these QoL updates to get it stable.

The Big Fixes:

Android Storage Fixed: Closed issue #18. The directory picker now actually works. You can point it to your external SD card or any ROM folder, and it won't crash or fail to import. It respects your folder structure and keeps the app data separate.

Immersive Mode: Closed issue #19. The Android navigation bar now hides correctly, giving you full-screen real estate for the games. There's also a setting to remove the virtual controls completely for a true full screen mode.

UI Overhaul: Added proper safe-area padding across the entire app so text doesn't get cut off by notches or rounded corners. The settings menu is now a full page instead of a drawer for better access/performance. More retro aesthetics!

Other Improvements:

Haptics Option: Added a toggle to disable haptics/vibration (Issue #27).

Save States: Fixed reliability issues with saves and toast notifications on both platforms.

Performance: Improved the input lag/interruption when pressing directional buttons. * Still needs optimized for older iOS hardware

Thanks for the feedback on the last build, it helped me snipe these bugs quickly. Frontend launcher support coming soon!
