Panels no longer let the terminal cut a value in half. A line built at its
natural width and handed to the renderer is not truncated by mirador — it is
truncated by the terminal, which keeps the cells that fit and drops the rest
without saying so. The terminal cannot tell a value from a fragment, so it cuts
wherever the edge falls, and a fragment of a value is not a smaller truth.Found by rendering every panel across a range of widths rather than by reading
the code. Four panels were cutting values at ordinary terminal sizes:- the network readout showed a bare

100 columns, and6.4 KB— a total — where6.4 KB/swas meant; - weather showed
humiditywith its percentage gone; - the pomodoro footer trailed off as
25m focus ·at the shipped default
of 120 columns; - the calendar cut a date down the middle, so
14under THU became
Thursday the 1st, with nothing on screen to say otherwise.
Values are now dropped whole — a figure leaves with its unit, an arrow with the
number it points at — and prose is ellipsised, so an abridged message says that
it is. Where a reading would be dropped only because of the padding that keeps
it from jiggling, the padding goes first. The calendar drops whole weekday
columns instead of half a date. - the network readout showed a bare

The empty-state messages in the agenda and watch log lost a word when the
panel was narrow. Both were hand-broken into two lines that still read as a
whole sentence —Nothing hasabovesince 00:30.— so the omission was
invisible. They wrap now. -
A table could build a row wider than the panel it was resolved for. Column
widths are declared without reference to the total, so a pane narrower than
their sum overflowed and the last value on the row lost its tail. Long-standing
and only reachable at small sizes, but the same defect as the four above. -
The status bar and the arrange-mode legend were doing this arithmetic by hand,
and one of them measured bytes rather than display cells.
