Artwork is decoded at the size it will be shown, hero and title page reuse the card's own file, and the title page fetches Trakt and TMDB in parallel. A short "What's new" card explains it on first start, with the numbers measured on a 2019 LG C9.
Added
- What's new card (1.3.1) — one page, shown once, with the before/after measurements and the new image quality setting.
- Image quality in Settings: Default uses the card's own file for hero and title page; High asks TMDB for the original backdrop (Trakt: full size), still ~1920 wide through the same decode; Low shrinks episode stills and logos one step.
Performance
- JPEG decoded at the target size. The TV's own libjpeg (
libjpeg.so.62, opened at runtime) now scales inside the DCT (1/2, 1/4, 1/8): a 1920×1080 backdrop for a 736 px card leaves the decoder with a quarter of the pixels. Measured on the C9: shrinking a 2560 px image to 1920 went from 1,212 ms to 12 ms; decodes above 250 ms during one pass through Home went from dozens to zero. - Resize up to 2× is bilinear in fixed point; area-average only for bigger ratios.
- Opening a title downloads nothing. Hero and title page use the same file the card already has, promoted to a bigger texture; previously every open fetched another image and the art could change three times.
- Decode thread at normal priority (was low), hero art wait lowered to 600 ms.
- Title page details in parallel: Trakt and TMDB are queried by two persistent workers over connections kept open between titles — no TLS handshake per open.
Fixed
- Title page left without art when metahub answered 404 (the card's backdrop is now used first; metahub only when there is no backdrop at all).
- Title details could arrive out of order when opening titles quickly (generation counter; stale results are dropped).
Notes
- Measurements were taken on an OLED65C9 (2019) on 2026-09-19 with the
[tex] decode lentolog line, same navigation before and after. The title-details timing was not measured: the network was degraded that day. - If your network is slow, "Artwork unavailable" rows in Cinemeta catalogs are the metahub image service being down, not the app — a fallback is planned.
- The decoder shortcut only applies to JPEG; PNG and WebP go through the usual path. Not available on Tizen (the browser decodes there).
