Faster startup

The home screen now finishes loading in 18.8 s instead of 38.6 s, measured on an LG C9 from a cold start:

milestone before after
Continue watching 14.8 s 6.0 s
Friends watching 19.5 s 9.1 s
Addon manifests 26.6 s 10.9 s
First network row on screen 26.9 s 11.2 s
Catalog published 38.6 s 18.8 s

Four causes, each measured on the TV before being touched:

  • Every HTTP request opened a brand new connection, paying DNS + TCP + TLS every time — for each image and each API call. Connections are now reused per thread. Measured on the TV, same URL, new vs reused connection: poster art 190 → 27 ms, metadata 212 → 40 ms, TMDB images 875 → 176 ms.
  • Continue watching asked the metadata service for art one title at a time, up to 15 requests before the first row existed — while Trakt had already sent poster, backdrop, logo, overview and runtime in the same response it was ignoring.
  • Addon manifests only started after all the Trakt work finished, and then one at a time. They now start immediately and in parallel.
  • Two Trakt endpoints always answer 401 for accounts without the aggregated-feed scope. The app read that as "your credentials were rejected", so every single startup renewed the refresh token and rebuilt the home for nothing.

Startup screen (Samsung / Tizen)

The technical log panel (userAgent, WebGL, SharedArrayBuffer) no longer greets you on launch. In its place: the app logo and a loading bar that shows the real download progress of the app data.

The panel is not gone — it is the only diagnostic when a TV shows a black screen. It now stays hidden and keeps recording in the background, and opens by itself if the app has not drawn a frame after 25 seconds. The green button still opens it at any time.

Thanks @rawldon for reporting this (#48, #27).

Accent color

New setting under Interface and account → Accent color: the focus ring can now take any of the 12 theme colors from the Nuvio web app. If your account already has a theme selected, the TV picks it up automatically — that value was being sent all along and the app was discarding it.

This covers the focus ring only, not the whole palette. The interface greys here were each calibrated by hand against the #0D0D0D background, and the web themes also change that background, which would invalidate all of it. The ring is the element your eye follows on a TV, and it was plain white everywhere until now.

Note: the settings blob is read-only, so a color picked on the TV lasts until the next sync, when the account value wins again. Pick it in the Nuvio web app to make it stick. Requested by @rawldon (#47).

Notes

  • The .ipk installs on rooted webOS TVs (Homebrew Channel / dev mode).
  • The .wgt is unsigned — sign it with your own Tizen certificate to install.
