Install

Computer Download
macOS 11 or later, Apple silicon or Intel CA-72-0.2.0-macOS.pkg (signed and notarised; VST3, CLAP and Audio Unit)
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit CA-72-0.2.0-Windows-setup.exe
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, without an installer CA-72-0.2.0-Windows-x86_64.zip: the VST3 and the CLAP to copy by hand (its README.txt says where)
Linux, x86-64 (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36 or later, or Arch) CA-72-0.2.0-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz: unpack it and run ./install.sh
0.1's factory presets, for any of them CA-72-0.2.0-0.1-presets.zip: copy its presets into your presets folder (its README.txt says where)

Close your host, run the installer (it installs over any 0.1 version), then rescan your host's plug-ins. The Windows installer is not yet signed: the first time, Windows says "Windows protected your PC"; click More info, then Run anyway.

Projects saved with 0.1 open in 0.2.0's calibration. The knobs whose behaviour the calibration changed are moved to where they give what they gave, and LEVEL is set to -0.5 dB, so that most sounds come within a decibel of how they played; what the calibration changed in the circuit's own parts can still be heard. Presets you saved yourself with 0.1 are not translated.

SHA256SUMS.txt lists the checksums of the installers, the Windows ZIP, the 0.1 presets and the sources archive. THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt holds the licences of the works built into the plug-ins; CA-72-0.2.0-git-sources.tar.gz holds the sources of the few crates the plug-ins take from git repositories rather than crates.io. The CA-72's own source is this repository at the tag v0.2.0.

In this release

  • Calibrated against hardware. The circuit's model was matched, part by part and knob by knob, to a modern recreation of the instrument: the oscillators' range, the filter's cutoff and EMPHASIS, AMOUNT OF CONTOUR, the contours' times and levels, GLIDE, the mixer's volumes, the external input and the output amplifier.
  • Nineteen new factory presets, levelled to the same loudness. 0.1's twenty-four are in CA-72-0.2.0-0.1-presets.zip, as they sounded in 0.1. Horn Bloom, Brass Choir and Warp Field play POLY with DOUBLE, and need a fast computer at QUALITY HI; on a slower one, use LO.
  • A new look: the panel in the original's materials, with a strip under it for the plug-in's own controls and the presets. The earlier drawn look is a choice in the settings key.
  • QUALITY: HI as before; LO, a light model of the voice for slower computers; ULTRA, the circuit's model with no compromises, for renders.
  • Stereo: SPREAD places the voices across the field, INNER keeps its centre clear, DOUBLE plays each note as two voices DETUNE apart, UNISON plays every note on all the voices, and in MONO each note can take the next place in the field.
  • DRIVE, with AUTO GAIN to keep the level, and LEVEL; FILTER MODE, the recreation's high-pass; NOTE PRIORITY (LOW, LAST or HIGH) and RETRIGGER.
  • FREQUENCY of oscillators 2 and 3 in semitones, or as the hardware's dial; values typed into the strip's readouts.
  • An instance waiting costs next to nothing. With POLY and UNISON off, the instrument sleeps once its sound has died away; before, it cost almost what playing does.
  • Fixes: the editor in Cubase gets its keys, and in REAPER's CLAP on Windows the Escape key; on macOS the editor draws beside other plug-ins using the same drawing library, and redraws only what changed.
