WiiCompiled OpenXR VR 0.2.44 · Quest app 0.5.0

The original Meta Quest is supported now, thanks to @darthcircuit. The Quest app gains mods,
profiles, Miis and online pages, you can drive with your bare hands, and a new race view keeps your
room around the race.

You still supply your own clean PAL (RMCP01) disc image. No game code and no game data ships in
any download here.

Quest 1 support, by @darthcircuit

  • A separate app for the original Quest, WiiCompiledVR-Quest1-0.5.0.apk. It is built for the
Quest 1's processor, which the regular app's code would crash on, and it compiles graphics
pipelines more gently so the game and the headset's frame pacing are not starved while it does.
  • Two entries in the Quest 1 library: WiiCompiled VR starts the game straight into VR, and
WiiCompiled Settings opens the setup and settings panel. The Quest 1's final firmware cannot
reliably switch from that panel into VR, so after changing a setting, close the panel and start
    WiiCompiled VR.
  • Build your game for the Quest 1 app: press Build on the headset, or in WheelWizard VR's
Build for Quest click Choose and pick the Quest 1 APK. The launcher downloads the regular
app by default, and a game built for one app does not load in the other.

Merged from darthcircuit's pull request #2. Thank you, darthcircuit!

Quest app

  • Mods from GameBanana: browse and install Retro Rewind mods from Patches → Browse, including
ones packed as .7z or .rar.
  • My profiles: your licences with their Mii, ratings and online status, as in WheelWizard on PC.
  • My Miis: view and edit your Miis in a Mii editor. The game's own Mii picker shows the changes.
  • Online: live Rooms, the Leaderboard with its podium, and your Friends list.

In the headset

  • A new race view, the immersive window. The race keeps its full stereo view and head tracking,
but you see it through a window, with your room around it on the Quest. Pick between
Immersive, Immersive window and Flat screen under F10 → VR → Race view, in the
headset panel's VR tab, or in the Quest app's settings.
  • Drive with your bare hands (Quest, off by default, needs hand steering on). The cockpit hands
follow the headset's hand tracking: hold the wheel to steer and accelerate, flick your hands for a
trick, and pinch with an open hand to use an item. Put a controller down and that hand switches to
the cameras. This builds on heurazy's hand steering from the last release.
  • Change the render resolution live: F10 → VR → Render resolution now applies without a
restart, on PC and on the Quest.
  • Foveated rendering on the Quest, set to medium by default: the edges of the immersive race
view are shaded more coarsely to free up GPU time. Choose off, low, medium or high in the settings.
Turning it on from off takes a restart.
  • Each eye is drawn in a single render pass, which cuts GPU memory traffic, especially on the
    Quest's mobile GPU.
  • Controller mode "None": the VR controllers step aside so you can play with another controller,
such as a desktop gamepad, a USB wheel or a Bluetooth Wii Remote.

Graphics fixes

  • Kart shadows are no longer cut to a rectangle in immersive races while the HUD is on its
    virtual screen.
  • The Time Trial ghost kart now appears correctly in VR.
  • The kart's own steering wheel is recognised more reliably in the cockpit.
  • Quest: no more freeze when leaving a race. The graphics pipeline cache is now saved in the
    background.
  • Fixed a possible graphics device loss when the render resolution changed.

Upgrading

  • Quest: install the app that matches your headset over the existing one:
    WiiCompiledVR-Quest-0.5.0.apk on Quest 2, 3, 3S and Pro, WiiCompiledVR-Quest1-0.5.0.apk on the
original Quest. Saves, settings, game files and the Retro Rewind pack are kept. Your built game
will show as out of date because the runtime changed, so build it again on the headset, or with
Build for Quest on your PC after updating it to 0.2.44.
  • PC: install over your existing installation as usual. Saves, Miis and ghosts are kept.

Downloads

  • WiiCompiled-Setup.exe: the PC installer, 0.2.44.
  • WiiCompiledVR-Quest-0.5.0.apk: the Quest app for Quest 2, 3, 3S and Pro.
  • WiiCompiledVR-Quest1-0.5.0.apk: the Quest app for the original Quest.
  • The launcher is a separate download, WheelWizard VR 2.5.9, in
    WheelWizard_VR.
