Web search in Claude Code chat
With web search turned on in the reader chat, Claude Code can look things up on the web for your question. It may only search; opening pages stays blocked.
- Only when asked: web search is used for questions you send with the globe button in the chat composer turned on. With it off, answers come without the web, as before.
- Guard rails: opening pages stays blocked, so hidden instructions in an article cannot make the AI send your conversation to another address. Search queries only reach the search engine.
- Everything else as before: Apple Intelligence, video muxing and Keychain storage are unchanged. The macOS package is signed and notarized as before.
