What's Changed

v1.9.0 only a week since 1.8.0 all because the wizard cast haste on me. Which is great, right up until the bard hits insults him for being short and he loses concentration.

This release is all about getting your stuff out of Grimoire and into the places you actually play. Share links give a book, map, token, audio track or model a public URL you can hand to a player without making them an account. You can set them to expire, put a password on them, and revoke them when one inevitably ends up in the wrong Discord channel. Speaking of Discord, maps can now be set up for OTFBM, so Avrae's !map draws your battle map already sized to its grid. The reader can also export a page range as a PDF or images, or cut out maps, tokens and handouts by drawing around them, so the one map you need no longer lives on page 147 of a 300-page PDF. Expect more integrations with VTTs moving forward, as this is just the foundational work.

Characters can come with you from other tools now too. Character importers read a Forge Steel hero, a Pathbuilder 2e export, or a D&D Beyond or DiceCloud link, and build the character on the right sheet, installing the sheet if you don't have it yet. Huge thanks to @ianfhunter for the DiceCloud and D&D Beyond importers. Like sheets, importers are community add-ons, so if your table's tool isn't covered yet, the importer guide shows you how to add it.

Grimoire also speaks to Grimoire Codex DB now, a community catalogue of TTRPG systems and books. Set GRIMOIRE_CODEX_DB_API_TOKEN and it becomes the first stop in Fetch metadata, and you can send books and corrections back so the next library finds them too. If you'd rather ask than search, turn on MCP_ENABLED and an AI assistant such as Claude Code can search your library and campaign notes and cite the book and page it found the answer on, limited to what its API key allows. To go further, the /grimoire skill in the community add-ons repo teaches your assistant to organise a pile of unsorted PDFs, find broken books, fill in metadata, and prep your next session.
