v1.0.9: PC build checks Visual Studio, repairs the SDK download

latest releases: v1.0.11, v1.0.10

The zip below is everything needed to build the game from your own disc: the build scripts, the SDK patches, the function hints and the host application. As always, it holds no game code, assets or keys; the build takes those from your own copy of Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition (USA/Europe, Xbox 360) on your machine.

PC build: Visual Studio version check

What was wrong. The SDK build failed with no member named 'byteswap' in namespace 'std'. The SDK uses std::byteswap, which Microsoft's C++ library only has from Visual Studio 2022 version 17.1 on. Step 1 accepted any Visual Studio with the C++ tools, so with VS 2019 or an early 2022 the build got through step 1 and failed in the long SDK build.

The fix. Step 1 now asks for Visual Studio 2022 17.1 or newer. If an older one is installed, it says which one and offers to install Build Tools 2022 next to it; you can also update the one you have in the Visual Studio Installer.

PC build: a cut-short SDK download is repaired (#21)

What was wrong. If the first download of the SDK stopped partway, later runs skipped the download because the folder was already there, and step 2 failed every time with config.h: No such file or directory.

The fix. Before patching the SDK, the build now fetches any missing parts and puts back missing files, leaving the project's patches alone. If FFmpeg is still incomplete after that, it stops and says to delete third_party\rexglue-sdk and run again.

How far it has been checked

On Windows 11 under PowerShell 7 and Windows PowerShell 5.1:

  • The version check accepts Build Tools 2022 17.14, and with the requirement raised above that, treats it as missing and names it. Not tested on a PC that actually has VS 2019.
  • The SDK repair, on a small stand-in for the SDK: a good checkout is left alone, missing files and a submodule that was never set up are restored, and an applied patch is kept. On a real, complete SDK it changes nothing. Not tested on a real interrupted download.

The README has two new troubleshooting rows for these errors.

Getting it

Update (git pull, or unpack the zip over your copy) and run the same command again:

.\scripts\make_pc.ps1 -Iso C:\path\to\your.iso

Nothing changed for PS5 or Linux in this release.
