v1.0.12: PS5 QUIT waits for saves, PC build checks the Windows SDK

latest release: v1.0.13

The zip below is everything needed to build the game from your own disc: the build scripts, the SDK patches, the function hints and the host application. As always, it holds no game code, assets or keys; the build takes those from your own copy of Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition (USA/Europe, Xbox 360) on your machine.

PS5: QUIT GAME lets a save in progress finish

On PC, QUIT GAME and the window's close button already wait for a career save that is being written before the game ends (from #18). On the PS5, QUIT asked the system to close the game straight away, which could cut a save short. The PS5 now waits for it too, for up to 10 seconds; a save takes a fraction of a second. The log says when it waited.

PC build: Windows SDK check (#21)

What was wrong. With Windows SDK 10.0.19041 or older as the newest one installed, the SDK build failed about 20 minutes in with unknown type name 'D3D12_FEATURE_DATA_D3D12_OPTIONS8': the SDK's Direct3D 12 code needs newer Windows headers.

The fix. Step 1 now checks the newest Windows SDK, the one Clang uses, and if it is too old, says which version it found and installs Windows SDK 10.0.26100 next to it (it asks for administrator rights). A fresh Build Tools 2022 install already brings a new enough one.

How far it has been checked

  • PS5 (PS5 Pro, 13.42): QUIT GAME still returns to the home screen cleanly. The wait itself did not come up, as no save was being written at that moment.
  • PC (Windows 11, under PowerShell 7 and Windows PowerShell 5.1): the game builds with the change. The Windows SDK check accepts this PC's 10.0.26100 and, on test folders, rejects a newest SDK of 10.0.19041, accepts 10.0.19041 next to a newer one, and treats no SDK as missing. The automatic install of the Windows SDK has not been run.

Getting it

Update (git pull, or unpack the zip over your copy) and run the same command again.

PC:

.\scripts\make_pc.ps1 -Iso C:\path\to\your.iso

PS5 (close the game on the console first):

bash ps5/make_ps5.sh --console <console address>
