The zip below is everything needed to build the game from your own disc: the build scripts, the SDK patches, the function hints and the host application. As always, it holds no game code, assets or keys; the build takes those from your own copy of Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition (USA/Europe, Xbox 360) on your machine.
PC build: Clang uses a Visual Studio that has the C++ tools (#21)
What was wrong. With two Visual Studios installed, Clang takes the newest one, even if it has no C++ tools: for example Visual Studio 2026 installed for something else, next to Build Tools 2022. It then cannot find Microsoft's C++ libraries, and step 3 fails in the SDK configure with lld-link: error: could not open 'oldnames.lib'. Step 1 did not catch it, because the Build Tools 2022 do qualify.
The fix. The build now points Clang at an install that has the C++ tools: Visual Studio 2022 version 17.1 or newer first (the version the build is tested with), else a newer one that has them. If you run it from a Developer PowerShell, the Visual Studio that prompt was opened for is kept.
How far it has been checked
On Windows 11 under PowerShell 7 and Windows PowerShell 5.1:
- With Clang pointed at a Visual Studio folder without the C++ libraries, CMake's compiler check fails with exactly the reported error; with the fix choosing, the same project configures, builds and runs.
- The fix picks the same Build Tools 2022 that Clang was already using on this PC, and the game build is unchanged.
- Not tested on a PC that actually has Visual Studio 2026 installed.
The README has a new troubleshooting row for this error.
Getting it
Update (git pull, or unpack the zip over your copy) and run the same command again:
.\scripts\make_pc.ps1 -Iso C:\path\to\your.isoNothing changed for PS5 or Linux in this release.
