8.2.0 (2026-11-06)

  • Note: HBUP now requires UniFi Protect v7 or later as of this release. Earlier versions of Protect are no longer supported.
  • Behavior change: MQTT now follows what you've enabled. A feature you've turned off in HBUP no longer publishes, answers, or accepts commands over MQTT...if an automation relies on a topic for something you've hidden from HomeKit, turn that feature back on. MQTT settings follow one rule now, too: a broker or topic feature option you've turned off, or left without a value, turns MQTT off for that controller even if the older per-controller fields still have values, and an empty topic field uses the default unifi/protect prefix instead of turning MQTT off.
  • New feature: HBUP now exposes the UniFi Protect UP Air Quality sensor in HomeKit: air quality with PM2.5 and PM10 readings, carbon dioxide with alerts at your Protect threshold, temperature, and humidity...plus an optional vape detection contact sensor through the new Sensor.Vape feature option. Measurements you toggle in the Protect app update HomeKit in real time, and every reading the sensor takes publishes over MQTT. HomeKit won't show everything the sensor measures: VOC, TVOC, and NOx are unitless indexes rather than the concentrations HomeKit expects, so showing them would mean showing wrong numbers, and PM1.0 and PM4.0 have no place in HomeKit, though those particles are already counted in PM2.5 and PM10. If Protect ever reports true gas concentrations, I'll wire them up.
  • New feature: HBUP now supports the UniFi Protect USL Smoke detector in HomeKit as native smoke and carbon monoxide sensors. Each sensor reports a fault when the detector does...a sensor fault, end of life, or a smoke chamber that needs cleaning...and the detector's full status, self-test included, publishes over MQTT. Protect's carbon monoxide reading has no unit HomeKit can honestly display, so the level stays MQTT-only until Protect reports a concentration.
  • New feature: third-party cameras now get HomeKit Secure Video without an AI Port. Recent Protect releases provide a motion sensor for ONVIF cameras that support motion detection, and HBUP treats those cameras like any other...they get a motion sensor and full HomeKit Secure Video support. Pairing one with an AI Port still adds smart detection on top. Cameras managed by UniFi Access don't get a motion sensor from Protect yet, so those wait on Protect.
  • New feature: give any device its own HomeKit name with the new Device.Name feature option. The name carries through to the device's parts, like its motion sensor or switches. Device.SyncName now works the same way, naming every part from the device's Protect name, with a custom name taking precedence. While either option is set, HBUP keeps those names in place and sets back a rename made in the Home app...with neither set, the names you give things in the Home app are yours to keep. The settings webUI lists each device by the name it carries in HomeKit, and a name HomeKit can't display is called out in the log at startup.
  • Improvement: feature options that choose from a list are now real pickers in the settings webUI. Occupancy sensor detection types, smart object sensors, fob buttons, relay outputs, and forced stream quality are all chosen from each device's actual choices. Your existing settings carry over...the settings webUI updates them to the new format the first time you open it. Relays with more than two outputs now show every output in HomeKit, too.
  • Improvement: cameras no longer need RTSP channels enabled to work with HBUP. Live views, HomeKit Secure Video, and snapshots all run over Protect's native livestream API on every camera, and RTSP autoconfiguration is now reserved for setups that actually stream over RTSP.
  • Improvement: more of what your controller reports reaches HomeKit without a Homebridge restart. Smart detection follows the detection types you turn on or off in the Protect app, and a camera that gains smart detection or the ability to record HomeKit Secure Video while HBUP is running picks it up right away.
  • Improvement: smart detection types now go by their Protect display names everywhere they appear - the settings pickers, HomeKit sensor names, and the log - so an audio alarm reads as Smoke Alarm or Glass Breakage rather than its internal name. Existing contact sensors keep the names they have, and newly added ones pick up the friendly names automatically.
  • Improvement: HomeKit Secure Video recordings now use the audio format each camera actually streams rather than assuming one rate for every camera, transcoding when needed, and the ambient noise filters run at the rate HomeKit selected. If a camera's audio format changes after startup, HBUP tells you once that a restart lets HomeKit learn the new format...and only when a restart would actually change something.
  • Improvement: MQTT state now publishes when a value changes and again each time HBUP connects to your broker, so a subscriber that joins late still sees current state. Changes you make in the Protect app to a light, relay, liveview scene, or chime volume publish too, as do sensor readings. Each device and each controller also has its own retained availability topic.
  • Improvement: HBUP keeps trying to connect to a controller that's unreachable, refuses your credentials, or is rate limiting requests at startup instead of giving up, and tells you why. Refused logins and rate limits are retried slowly so your account doesn't get locked out...while a malformed address stops the retries until you correct it. Controller addresses ignore stray spaces, and any credentials in an address are masked in the log.
  • Improvement: HomeKit now shows No Response whenever HBUP can't vouch for an accessory...its controller is lost or rebooting, the device is offline, or it's on its way out after you removed it from Protect. Motion and occupancy sensors show No Response during an outage rather than looking inactive. Accessories come back on their own when the controller or device does, and a restored accessory refuses commands until HBUP has finished setting it up, so HomeKit no longer tells you something worked when nothing happened.
  • Improvement: a problem with one device or controller no longer takes the rest down with it. A device that can't be set up, added to HomeKit, or removed from it is logged and skipped, and a controller that fails partway through starting logs an error and stops until you restart Homebridge...everything else keeps running.
  • Improvement: the settings webUI is more forgiving with controllers. It tells you clearly when a controller can't be reached, a save always completes and tells you how it went, your selection survives an address change, an address another controller already uses is refused, and a login check gives up after 30 seconds instead of spinning forever. A controller address listed twice in your configuration is used once.
  • Improvement: snapshots arrive faster when a camera's RTSP stream is slow to respond...HBUP also asks the Protect controller and uses the first good image.
  • Improvement: scheduled controller reboots now wait for package cameras that are actively recording HomeKit Secure Video events, just as they do for their parent cameras.
  • Improvement: quieter, clearer logs. Recordings held while a rebooting controller settles no longer log warnings, a camera that doesn't come back after a controller reboot is called out plainly with a matching all-clear when it returns, and each feature option you've set is stated once for wherever you set it (globally, for a controller, or for a device) rather than once for every camera.
  • Fix: changes you make in HomeKit are now saved right away...a crash or power loss no longer brings back a sensor you turned off or forgets a setting you changed.
  • Fix: IPv6 addresses now work for live views, two-way audio, and RTSP.
  • Fix: a mistyped MQTT broker URL no longer interferes with startup...MQTT simply stays off, and the log tells you why.
  • Fix: unlocking a UniFi Access lock from the Home app now shows it as unlocked until it re-locks, rather than stalling on Unlocking.
  • Fix: the glass break and alarm sound contact sensors each follow their own detection in Protect rather than a shared alarm state, so a glass break Protect detects is no longer missed. Clearing an alarm in the Protect app clears both.
  • Fix: the doorbell mute switch and status light switch now appear only on cameras that actually have a doorbell or status light, and the status light and night vision controls stay responsive when a camera's streaming configuration changes.
  • Fix: a temperature or humidity reading that briefly drops out now holds its last value.
  • Fix: a controller you've disabled in HBUP now removes its accessories as soon as it connects, and a playlist port outside the valid range is reported instead of taking the controller down with it.
  • Housekeeping.
