Mario Kart Wii VR Port 0.5.0

This release adds the complete tracked first-person cockpit developed for Mario Kart Wii VR and Retro Rewind VR.

Cockpit and cameras

  • Every race starts in the original game camera. Click the right stick to cycle through original, true first-person cockpit, and distant diorama views.
  • The cockpit camera is placed at the local driver's authored head position and hides that driver model while preserving the kart and other racers.
  • Kart impacts no longer detach the camera from the vehicle. Position follows the simulation while impact rotation is stabilised and blended back for comfort.
  • The distant camera uses the kart centre and driving direction for a stable diorama presentation.

Tracked hands and physical steering

  • Cockpit mode adds a 36 cm physical steering wheel controlled with one or both Quest hands.
  • Squeeze either grip near the rim to grab it; a quarter-turn reaches full steering lock.
  • Hands may move farther forward or backward, and crossing the wheel centre no longer releases the grab or flips steering.
  • Releasing both grips returns steering to the left stick.
  • The renderer uses the Meta OpenXR hand mesh when available and articulated glove models as a fallback.

HUD and controls

  • The full HUD, including the item roulette, is anchored in front of the cockpit. Original and diorama modes retain the optional left-hand panel.
  • Right trigger accelerates. Holding the left trigger brakes and then reverses in every camera.
  • Y uses the current item. X performs tricks. A hops and drifts in cockpit mode.
  • X+Y opens or closes the VR settings without sending either action to gameplay.
  • VR settings include resolution, rendering, FPS, camera placement, world scale, HUD placement, stick calibration, and input diagnostics.

Distribution

The single portable archive contains the English v0.5.0 installer and the integrated Wheel Wizard launcher. Setup accepts the user's own clean PAL RMCP01 disc image and compiles both Mario Kart Wii VR and, by default, the latest Retro Rewind pack locally.

The release contains no Nintendo code, translated game executable, game assets, or ROM data.
