HC Player 1.7 brings Xbox-compatible controller support, a dedicated Shaders and Anime4K panel, and recent-media cards on the home screen. This release also introduces Japanese and Russian translations, and refinements throughout the interface.
Highlights
- Play and navigate with an Xbox-compatible controller.
- Manage shaders and Anime4K in a dedicated panel, with convenient keyboard shortcuts.
- Reopen your last three files or links from the home screen.
- Use HC Player in Japanese by @coolvitto or Russian by @serikpin, alongside English and Brazilian Portuguese.
- Refined menus, panels and fullscreen transitions.
Xbox-Compatible Controller Support
Enable Xbox controller in Settings → Playback. With media loaded and the player in the foreground, use a compatible controller for playback and supported panel navigation.
| Input | Action during playback, with panels closed |
|---|---|
| A | Play/pause; replay a finished item |
| D-pad left/right | Seek backward/forward 5 seconds |
| D-pad up/down | Adjust volume by 2 points |
| Left stick left/right | Fine seeking, with 0.5/2/8-second steps according to tilt |
| Left stick up/down | Continuous volume adjustment |
| Right stick left/right | Fast seeking, with 10/20/40-second steps according to tilt |
| Right stick up/down | Fine seeking |
| LT / RT | Previous/next speed preset, from 0.5× to 2× |
| B | Restore normal playback speed |
| LB / RB | Previous/next playlist item |
| Y | Toggle fullscreen |
| R3 | Show/hide mpv statistics |
- Playlist: press X to open or close it. Use the right stick to move between items and pages; A plays the highlighted item and B pauses or resumes current playback. Browsing does not start playback automatically.
- Settings: press Menu/Start to open it. Navigate supported switches and choice lists with the right stick or D-pad, activate with A, and change tabs with LB/RB. An open choice list is confirmed with A or canceled with B/X/Start.
- MediaInfo: press Select/View to open it, scroll with the right stick or D-pad, and close with Select or X.
Controller navigation covers supported controls; text entry, sliders and arbitrary import/reset actions still use mouse or keyboard. Release buttons and center the sticks after focus or device changes. Seeking requires seekable media; still images are excluded from seek and speed controls.
Dedicated Shaders and Anime4K Panel
Open Shaders and Anime4K from Settings to manage imported GLSL shaders in their own panel.
- Import, enable, disable, reorder and remove custom shaders.
- Choose available Anime4K modes and switch between Fast and HQ profiles.
- Keep the panel synchronized with changes made using keyboard shortcuts.
- Reuse unchanged shader rows when reopening the panel, avoiding unnecessary interface rebuilding.
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+F8 | Toggle Anime4K |
| Ctrl+F9 / Ctrl+F10 | Previous/next available mode |
| Ctrl+Shift+F8 | Switch Fast/HQ profile |
Anime4K uses imported shader files. Unavailable modes are skipped, and an unavailable profile leaves the current selection intact. Custom mpv bindings for these shortcuts retain priority.
Recent Media on the Home Screen
Enable Show recent media to display up to three recent files or links on the idle home screen.
- Open an item directly from its card, with file/link icons and hover feedback.
- Cards follow the selected HC Player or Windows 11 style and light/dark theme.
- Placement adapts to windowed and fullscreen layouts, leaving room above the playback controls.
- Choose separately whether recent media appears in the context menu.
- Clear recent-media history from Settings without deleting saved playback resume positions.
Context Menu Choices
- Improved context menu responsiveness: The HC Player menu shows the first 15 tracks directly. If there are more, one More tracks submenu contains the entire remainder.
- Remaining entries are prepared when the submenu is accessed, reducing the initial construction work for media with many tracks.
- Selection checks remain visible, including a normal-sized check on More tracks when its branch contains the selected track.
- The Windows classic menu keeps its full, flat track lists. Reopening reuses unchanged track items; changes to the media or track data refresh them.
Other Fixes and Polish
- Added an option to hide recently played media from the context menu.
- Refines fullscreen-to-window transitions in light and dark themes, including Enter and double-click returns.
- Improves restoration of WinUI dialogs after Show Desktop, including opening media from Explorer with automatic fullscreen enabled.
- Keeps Minimal/Floating playback bars and flyouts hidden during shared WinUI dialogs, and shows the shuffle enabled-state check in their More menu.
- Aligns the font of selected Settings text fields with the YouTube API-key field at every display scale, including OSD, subtitle, debanding and web-streaming inputs.
- Localizes known OpenSubtitles permission and authentication messages.
- For your convenience, HC Player is now available on the Microsoft Store too!
