1.8.18 (October 19, 2026)
SECURITY:
- Upgrade
golang.org/x/netto v0.60.0, Go to 1.26.9, andzlibto fix ALPINE-CVE-2026-85091. [GH-5737] - server-acl-init: Binding rules of components that were disabled before upgrading are not rewritten. If you previously enabled and later disabled a component (for example sync-catalog, mesh-gateway or a gateway), delete its old binding rule on the component auth method (
consul acl binding-rule list -method <prefix>-k8s-component-auth-method, thenconsul acl binding-rule delete -id <id>), or re-enable the component once and run the upgrade so its rule is updated. [GH-5746]
FEATURES:
- helm: add
global.acls.authMethod.createto allow using Kubernetes auth methods that were configured outside of the Helm release. When set tofalse, theserver-acl-initjob requires the auth methods to already exist and only manages the ACL policies, roles and binding rules. [GH-5611] - helm: add
global.acls.authMethod.nameto configure the base name of the Kubernetes auth methods created by theserver-acl-initjob. Set this to a unique value per Kubernetes cluster when multiple clusters share a single Consul control plane, so that the clusters do not overwrite each other's auth methods. [GH-5611]
IMPROVEMENTS:
- helm: add
global.imageApplyManifestsvalue to allow overriding the container image used by the post-upgrade apply-manifests Job, enabling use of air-gapped or security-approved images in place of the defaultbitnami/kubectl:latest(non-OpenShift) orregistry.redhat.io/openshift4/ose-cli(OpenShift). [GH-5673]
BUG FIXES:
- helm: Fix terminating gateway Services selecting pods of all terminating gateways in a release by adding the
terminating-gateway-namelabel to the Service selector. [GH-5717] - server-acl-init: Fix component ACL binding rules matching only the ServiceAccount name, which let a same-named ServiceAccount in any namespace log in and receive the component's ACL role. Rules now also require the Consul release namespace, and existing rules are updated on upgrade, including in federated secondary datacenters. Components running outside the release namespace must be moved into it. [GH-5746]
