Retrace v0.9.0
This release brings together the improvements made since v0.8.7 in April: a more useful activity dashboard, better search and timeline navigation, capture improvements, and fixes reported by the community.
Privacy during conference calls
- Added automatic face blurring during detected conference calls.
- Added a menu-bar action to disable face blurring for the current call after confirming that participants consented to unblurred recording.
- Added call-protection and consent status to the dashboard.
Understand your activity over an exact period
- Enter exact dates and times in the existing dashboard date-range picker. Date-only input still selects the full local day.
- Open a chosen dashboard range from another app with
retrace://dashboard?start=...&end=.... - Get the app/window breakdown before slower charts finish loading. Custom ranges skip unrelated all-time storage scans.
- See improved browser and website usage breakdowns. Dashboard engagement counts respect the selected time bounds.
Search and navigate more easily
- Improved search-result deduplication and faster navigation between matches within a frame.
- Better handling of shell commands and technical text in searches.
- Improved keyboard shortcuts, search focus, copy/paste, calendar controls, and natural-language date jumping, including numeric offsets such as “2 days from now” and compact times such as “feb 28 1417”.
- Restored select-all and clipboard shortcuts in the settings search field, while leaving shortcuts with whichever field is focused.
- Easier access to comments, tags, hiding, and deletion through the timeline’s context controls.
A more predictable timeline
- Fixed the timeline closing when a window becomes active on another display.
- Improved focus behavior when using the live view and interacting with other windows.
- Prevented stale pagination results from replacing a newer view.
- Improved cached-frame decoding and bounded still-image cleanup so it does not hold up capture.
Capture quality and OCR
- Improved capture color fidelity by preserving screen color information during encoding.
- Refined capture quality defaults and made storage estimates easier to understand.
- Improved window-change capture behavior and menu-bar capture feedback.
- Fixed foreground app/window attribution when Computer Use and screen-sharing indicators are present.
- Added “Set to Max Priority when Plugged In” in Power settings: OCR temporarily uses Max processing while connected to power and returns to your saved priority when unplugged.
Reliability and everyday fixes
- Clearer alerts when the recording pipeline is interrupted.
- More reliable handling of inactive recording writers, duplicate launches, and relaunch handoffs.
- Fixed pause-reminder presentation, low-storage banner updates, and quit-confirmation behavior.
- Improved Rewind cutoff setup and guidance for browser features that are not supported.
- More consistent appearance and clearer settings descriptions.
- Smaller feedback diagnostic exports and better control over when diagnostics are included.
