[v1.8.4] - 2026-09-21
Why Upgrade
- Browse JSON in a structured preview and read YAML with syntax colors.
- Choose how macOS opens files across desktops and handles the last tab.
- Keep space below the cursor when placing it on iPhone and iPad.
Highlights
- Adds opt-in macOS settings to open files on the current desktop and keep an empty window after closing its last tab.
- Adds structured JSON previews and syntax-colored YAML previews for large documents.
Fixes
- Uses the same window routing for new and already-open files across macOS Spaces (#583, #584).
- Keeps an empty macOS editor available without creating an unwanted untitled tab; Close Window remains available with Command-Shift-W (#586).
- Reveals space below the cursor after placing it on iPhone and iPad, as well as while typing.
- Preserves YAML string colors across preview pages and restores keyword formatting in previews.
Breaking changes
- None.
Migration
- No document migration is required. Very large single-line Unicode JSON can still stall mobile editing; this remains tracked in #595.
Maintenance
- Enables non-contiguous UIKit layout before large-text installation and adds complete-opening responsiveness tests. Physical-device verification for #595 remains outstanding.
- Advances the development version to 1.8.4; release preparation allocates the build number from the live Xcode Cloud counter.
