This release continues the work on the map: places can now bring their own map files, so the boundaries of a parish or a route in KML, GeoJSON or GPX appear right on the map, Wikidata buildings can be saved to your tree with one click, and all map labels are now shown in your language. Beyond the map, the object lists get an advanced filter that combines any of the Gramps filter rules, admins can create and restore backups directly in the app, and you can link several sign-in methods to your account. Three new contributors joined with a long list of bug fixes. Welcome! 🚀
Several of the new features rely on new endpoints in Gramps Web API v3.24, the server component included in the release images. They degrade gracefully on older backend versions.
Map View
Map files of places
When you select a place on the map, the KML, GeoJSON and GPX files attached to it as media objects are drawn on the map, e.g. the boundaries of a parish or a route. This also works for places without coordinates. While a place is selected, its files are listed in the layer switcher under "Your maps" and can be switched off there.
Save Wikidata buildings as places
The details of a Wikidata building have a new Save as place button, which opens the new place form prefilled with the building's name, type, coordinates and a link to Wikidata. If the building is already in your tree, the button opens the existing place. This lets you use the historical buildings collected in Domus in your own tree.
Implemented in #1528
Labels in your language
The labels of the base map and the historical map are now shown in the language you selected in Gramps Web, for all its languages, and fall back to the local name. Closes #1460.
Advanced Filter
The filter panel of the object lists has a new Advanced filter button, which opens a condition builder for everything the filter facets can't express. Conditions are the filter rules known from Gramps desktop, picked from a searchable list. They can be combined in groups with All conditions, Any condition or Exactly one condition, and groups and conditions can be nested and negated. Each parameter gets a matching input, e.g. a date field, a tag selector or the object selector for IDs.
Active facet filters open in the builder as conditions, and a simple filter goes back to the facet pills when you're done. The rules are shown in your language with Gramps Web API v3.24.
Implemented in #1506
Backups
The admin settings have a new Backups section. You can create, download and delete backups stored on the server, and restore from a stored backup or an uploaded file. Before restoring, you choose what to restore (data, tree settings and users) and get a preview of the changes. The restore from a Gramps XML file moved into the same upload, so the Danger Zone now only contains "Delete all objects". Managing backups needs a new permission and Gramps Web API v3.24.
Implemented in #1544
Linked Sign-in Methods
If your server uses single sign-on (OIDC), you can now link and unlink sign-in methods under Settings > Account, e.g. to sign in to an existing account with Google or Microsoft. Part of #770, implemented by @scotCW in #1547
Other New Features
- In edit mode, a person without media shows a profile picture placeholder with a menu to upload or select a media object, and the first image in the gallery is marked as the profile picture. Closes #1414. Implemented by @lukasganster in #1525
- When another task is already running on the tree, e.g. an import or a reindex, starting a new one now shows a clear message and the running task with its progress. Finished tasks in the notification log read "Task completed" or "Task failed", and clicking a failed task shows its error. #1535
- When the limit for media archive exports is reached, the error message now shows the configured limit. #1534
- The first-run wizard no longer asks for the e-mail settings, which are set in the server configuration. By @scotCW in #1511
