Added

  • The Home Assistant security audit now covers the home's radio networks. This is step 6 of the network security plan; the design and its decisions are in the radio plan. Five new Sentinel rules, all reading what Home Assistant already knows — nothing scans the network or the air: (#634)
    • radio_new_device_joined alerts once when a Zigbee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, or Matter device is paired. It is low severity by default, medium while nobody is home or at night, and high when the new device is a lock, alarm panel, camera, or entry cover and nobody is home. The push carries a Trust device button, which records that you recognize the device (admin users only).
    • zwave_insecure_security_class flags Z-Wave locks, alarm panels, and door/gate/garage covers included with legacy S0 security or none (high), and any other Z-Wave device still on S0 (low). Devices without security that are not security devices are not reported, since most sensors run that way on purpose.
    • zigbee_permit_join_open catches Zigbee2MQTT accepting new devices, higher while nobody is home. Sentinel wakes the moment the bridge's permit-join switch turns on, because a Zigbee2MQTT join window closes within 254 seconds.
    • zwave_inclusion_active reports a Z-Wave controller in inclusion mode.
    • radio_coordinator_update_pending lists firmware waiting for a Zigbee or Z-Wave coordinator, a Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1/ZBT-2 or Yellow radio, a Zigbee2MQTT bridge, or a Bluetooth proxy.
  • New devices are judged against a persistent device inventory that stores device registry ids and names only, never IEEE addresses, node ids, or MAC addresses. Each protocol is recorded silently the first time it is present, with one Sentinel device inventory established notification, so upgrading does not alert on the devices you already have. A new device is recorded straight away as untrusted: a cooldown or quiet hours postpone its alert, while delivery, a snooze, triage, or trusting the device settle it. New services: sentinel_get_network_inventory, and the admin-only sentinel_trust_network_device, sentinel_untrust_network_device, and sentinel_reset_network_inventory. Deleting the Sentinel subentry deletes the inventory.
  • run_network_audit and the agent's audit_home_security tool report trusted and untrusted device counts, and name the radio checks that could not run and why.

Notes

  • ZHA's permit-join state is not observable on Home Assistant 2026.9 (its radio library opens the join window without recording it anywhere Home Assistant can read), so zigbee_permit_join_open is listed as not run on ZHA-only homes rather than guessed. Z-Wave inclusion is observed only when a Sentinel run lands inside the inclusion window.
  • Home Assistant restores a removed device's registry id when the same hardware is added back, so removing and re-pairing a device alerts only if a Sentinel run saw it gone in between.
