2.5.0-test6 (test build)

pre-releaseone month ago

This previews 2.5.0, the version heading to a public release. The headline is a rebuilt video editor that now works as a timeline, so you can combine several clips into one video. This is the deciding test before 2.5.0 ships, so please give the whole app a real workout: viewing your gallery, upload, download, managing albums, editing photos and videos, sharing via Drive, using the app without an account, the duplicate finder, semantic search, and face recognition. If your indexing or face scan ever looked stuck, please check whether it now finishes.

If anything misbehaves, please send the diagnostics so I can tell a file problem apart from something else: copy them from Settings and email support@photosforproton.eu, or post on Discord or GitHub.

New

  • Combine multiple clips in the video editor. It is now a timeline: add clips from your library, trim, reorder and delete them, layer background music, tune color and light, then export it all as one video.
  • Move photos to another album from inside an album. They join the target and leave the current album; moving into a shared album places a copy there.

Fixed and improved

  • Photo indexing no longer looks stuck at "scanning N of M" forever. When the last few items cannot be processed right now, face and semantic indexing settle and retry on the next trigger instead of showing a frozen bar.
  • Videos open cleanly and play on more devices: no wrong photo or white flash when a video opens, the poster matches the video, and playback falls back to another decoder when a phone's primary hardware decoder fails.
  • Face merge suggestions respond the instant you tap, stay reachable, and a pair whose merge did not finish is offered again instead of vanishing. You can tap a suggested face to view that person before deciding.
  • Enlarged duplicate photos fade in instead of flashing white.
  • People and Memories fit more columns on wide screens and keep two on narrow or large-text screens.
  • The delete confirmation shows how much space removing the photos will free.
  • App Lock can relock after 5, 10, or 30 seconds, alongside the longer options.
  • "Delete everywhere" clears a cloud photo the server already removed instead of leaving it stuck with a cloud badge.
  • The sign-out dialog lists the on-device data it removes, once instead of per item.
  • The search box reads "Search your photos" when semantic search is on.
  • The synced-cloud badge stays legible in the light theme.
  • The photo editor Adjust tab and controls now match the video editor.
  • The album screen opens faster and the video-editor filmstrip is smoother.
