Everything that runs Buddy's Linux is now built from source, agents notice when a tap did nothing, and Buddy speaks Vietnamese.
Built from source
- The native code behind Buddy's Linux and terminal (proot, talloc, libandroid-shmem and the terminal helper) is no longer stored in the repo as prebuilt files.
- GitHub Actions now compiles it for every release, from exact source versions checked by SHA-256. Anyone can read the build script in
native/build.shand see exactly how they're built. - You'll see no change in the app. Your Linux, agents and chats carry on as before.
Fewer wasted taps
- Nothing changed: after a tap, swipe, scroll or Back, Buddy tells the agent if the screen stayed the same, so it tries another way instead of repeating itself. Before retrying a send, post or payment, the agent checks whether it already went through.
- Covered buttons: Buddy won't tap a button by its element number when something covers it, like the keyboard, because the tap would hit whatever is on top. The agent can see what's covered when it reads the screen.
- Typing: if a field changes or drops what was typed, the agent is told what it now says. Password fields are never read back.
Agents see more of the screen
- Error messages on fields, hints, headings, tooltips and pane titles.
- Toasts, the short messages that pop up and vanish, like "Invalid number". To catch them, Buddy now also receives notification events, ignores everything else and stores none of it.
Vietnamese
- Buddy is now available in Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt), including the guide, for 18 languages in all.
- Approval cards now recognise Vietnamese buttons such as Gửi, Thanh toán and Xóa.
Updating
Buddy will tell you about this update (or ask any agent "update yourself"). Otherwise install buddy.apk below over your current Buddy; your chats, settings and sign-ins are kept.
