Your own API keys with Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode, skills for every agent, phone tools that don't need the screen, and GitHub for the Linux tools.
API keys
- New in Settings: API keys. Add as many services as you like, with presets for DeepSeek, OpenRouter, Anthropic and OpenAI, or any service with an Anthropic-style or OpenAI-style API.
- Buddy checks each key by listing the service's models, with their context size. Choose models keeps long lists (OpenRouter's) short.
- Each chat picks its model in its model sheet: your plan's models, then each service's models under its name. Claude Code uses services with an Anthropic-style API, Codex those with OpenAI's Responses API, and OpenCode any of them.
- Chats on Default sets what each agent uses when a chat's model is Default: its plan, or a service's model.
- Buddy tells the agent the model's real context size (DeepSeek: 1M tokens instead of the 200K Claude Code would assume), so long chats are compacted only when they need to be, and offers only the effort levels the service supports.
- Keep your plans signed in too: voice input, live voice, Remote Control and the Codex session for the ChatGPT app use them. Use with a key is billed to the key's account.
Your keys stay out of the agents' reach
- Keys are stored encrypted on the phone (Android Keystore) and never go into Buddy's Linux. The agents send their requests to Buddy, which adds the key and passes the requests on, so no agent, command or web page it reads can see them.
Skills
- New in Settings: Skills. Instructions an agent follows for a kind of task, in the SKILL.md format Claude, ChatGPT and Codex use. Import a .zip, .skill or SKILL.md, or write one.
- Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode use a skill when a task fits, or when you type / in the message box and pick it.
Phone tools without the screen
- Agents can now copy to the clipboard, set an alarm or a timer, open the share sheet with a text or a file (you pick the app), save a file to Downloads/Buddy, and check the battery, network, time and free storage.
- They can open the camera for you to take a photo, read the clipboard and get the phone's location. Buddy asks you each time before the clipboard or the location is read. Location isn't in the Play version.
GitHub
- New in Settings: GitHub. Sign in once with GitHub's own code, and agents in chats with Linux tools can clone, commit, push and open pull requests as you. They're told to ask you first before anything they push or post.
Backup and move
- Settings → Experience → Backup and move: your chats, settings, rules, pictures, skills, projects and the agents' records of each conversation in one file in Downloads/Buddy. Restore it here or on another phone. Sign-ins and API keys aren't in it.
Continue after a cut-off
- When Android closes Buddy while an agent is working (an update, low memory), the chat says so and offers Continue: the agent checks what's done and goes on.
Incognito chats
- A chat's options → Incognito: the chat is deleted when Buddy restarts, with what its agent kept of it.
How full is the chat?
- The model sheet shows how much of the context a Claude Code or Codex chat fills, and the chip shows it once it's past half full.
- Compact now (Claude Code) summarizes the conversation to free up room; the chat says when it's been compacted, by you or on its own.
Linux tools off means off
- With Linux tools off, Codex now runs no commands at all, like Claude Code. Only a file you attach to a message (not a picture) can still be opened.
Smoother live voice
- The bar no longer stays on "Connecting…" when the call is already up.
- It shows "Working on it…" while the agent works, and "Speaking…" no longer flickers.
Setup
- When your default agent isn't signed in but others are, the setup card says so and offers Switch default. It also mentions the API key option.
Updating
Buddy will tell you about this update (or ask any agent "update yourself"). Otherwise install buddy.apk below over your current Buddy; your chats, settings and sign-ins are kept.
