Buddy now updates itself, agents can ask you questions, and the bubble looks like the app.
Updates
- Update notices: Buddy checks GitHub once a day and notifies you when a new version is out. Tap it to see what's new, then Update: Buddy downloads
buddy.apkfrom this repo's release and opens Android's installer. Don't notify me turns the notices off (Settings → Experience → Update notices). - Check for updates in Settings, or just ask any agent: "update yourself". It tells you what's new and, with your OK, opens the installer. You still tap Update; your chats stay.
- Only Buddy's own releases are installed this way, and Android refuses any APK not signed like your Buddy.
Questions
- New ask tool: when an agent needs you to choose (which reply, which item, which time), it shows a card with 2–4 answers. Tap one, or type your own answer. Works in the bubble, in the chat screen, and for any MCP client using the phone tools.
The bubble
- The chat panel now matches the chat screen: the chat's title with agent · model, plain New chat / Open in the app / Close icons, the Working… strip with Stop, tool calls grouped in one card, and Buddy's face on replies.
- Attach button in the bubble: opens the chat in the app with the photo / file picker, keeping what you typed.
- Fix: the text box no longer gets stuck behind the keyboard.
Also
- Links in chats are tappable, in the bubble and the chat screen.
- Developer mode:
install_apkalso takes an APK served by another app on the phone (http://127.0.0.1:…), e.g. one built in Termux. - No more double check marks on approved steps.
Updating
This is the last update you install by hand: install buddy.apk below over your current Buddy (your chats, settings and sign-ins are kept; don't uninstall first). From now on Buddy tells you when the next one is out.
Prefer Obtainium? Add https://github.com/ghorbelhamdi/buddy-android and pick buddy.apk. Details in the README's Updating section.
New install: download buddy.apk below. If Play Protect blocks it, tap More details → Install anyway. See the README for restricted settings on Android 13+.
