CLI

This release focuses on standardizing the CLI command and flag structure around kebab-case, cleaning up legacy options, and hardening input validation and exit code behavior.

New Features

  • Standardized kebab-case commands and flags: Multi-word commands and options now use kebab-case (eval:extract-data, flow:batch-run, --max-rows, --batch-size, --explicit-project-root). Legacy camelCase command aliases (eval:extractData, flow:batchRun) and flags remain supported for backward compatibility.
  • Dart documentation support: Added dart as a supported language in genkit docs:list, genkit docs:search, and the MCP documentation tools (list_genkit_docs, search_genkit_docs).
  • Command and flag deprecations:
    • Deprecated genkit ui:start and genkit ui:stop with a runtime warning in favor of genkit start.
    • Deprecated and hid the no-op -w, --wait flag on flow:run and flow:batch-run (flows always run to completion).

Fixes

  • Strict option & argument validation: Added upfront validation for numeric options (--port, --limit, --max-rows, --batch-size, --timeout), JSON inputs (--context, [data]), --status trace filters (success, error, or status code), and --output-format (json, csv), and required explicit values on --label, --project-root, and --timeout.
  • Non-zero exit codes on failure: CLI commands now consistently exit with a non-zero exit code (1) on unknown commands, unknown plugin subcommands, runtime manager errors, and command failures across config, docs:*, log:list, trace:get, and trace:list.
  • Browser launch host formatting: Fixed genkit start --open --host <host> to properly format IPv6 addresses and map wildcard bind addresses (0.0.0.0, ::) to localhost when opening the browser.
  • Help output & docs bundle URL: Cleaned up --help usage strings across commands and updated the documentation bundle URL to use https://.

Dev UI

This release adds inline A2UI surface rendering, improves recovery from mid-turn generation errors, enhances log filtering and runtime connection stability, and reduces the Dev UI package size by over 60%.

New Features

  • A2UI Surface Rendering & Inspector:
    • Added inline card rendering for A2UI surfaces in the message list along with an A2UI Surface Inspector dialog to view surface state and payloads.
  • Mid-Turn Error Recovery & Retry in Runners:
    • Added Retry and Continue actions in the Model Runner and Prompt Runner when a multi-step generate call fails mid-turn (failed, aborted, or blocked), preserving completed intermediate tool calls so you can either continue from the last good state or retry the full turn.
    • Model spans and agent turns that end with failed, aborted, or blocked now consistently surface their error or finish messages in Trace Span Details and the Agent Runner.
    • Improved error callouts across all runners with cleaner single-line headers, expandable details, and quick action buttons.

  • Logs Panel Filtering & Span Context:
    • Added a Span column to the logs table and updated it to display logs for the full trace by default, with a toggle to filter down to the currently selected span.
    • Added severity level filtering in the logs toolbar and quick-filter menus directly on severity badges in log rows.
    image
  • Tool Action Cards:
    • Added support for pre-populated tool responses and clearer status indicators when inspecting or resuming tool calls.
  • Persistent View Preferences:
    • The selected span view mode and other display preferences are now remembered across page reloads.

Fixes

  • 60% Package Size Reduction:
    • Reduced the Dev UI bundle size by over 60% (9.17 MB → 3.60 MB compressed) by trimming unused editor and syntax-highlighting assets, resulting in faster CLI downloads and quicker initial page loads.
  • Runtime Connection & Page Load Stability:
    • Fixed an issue where the app bar could get stuck showing "No app detected" on initial page load or after a runtime restart, and prevented overlapping background polling requests so the UI stays stable and responsive on slower connections.
  • Remote & Proxied Environment Support:
    • Improved API routing and streaming reliability when running the Dev UI through reverse proxies or remote development environments (such as Cloud Shell, dev containers, or SSH port forwarding), including immediate trace availability while actions are still streaming.
  • Agent Runner:
    • Fixed the "View trace" button in the top notification banner and hid bidirectional streaming options when connected to runtimes that do not support them.
  • UI & Accessibility Polish:
    • Added a "Trace not found" error message when opening a missing trace link in Trace Details.
    • Made the logs table pagination bar sticky while scrolling, improved badge alignment and dark-mode contrast, and improved keyboard navigation across messages, tools, and evaluations.
