Highball 0.8.1
A reliability release for people who already had Highball installed, and for first runs that didn't finish.
Fixed
- Creating an environment no longer looks broken. The first Windows boot takes about 90 seconds; 0.8.0 showed no progress in the Settings window and ignored a second click while busy, so it looked dead (issues #21, #57). Settings now shows progress, the Create button reads "Working…" and is disabled until done, and a create that truly can't start says why.
- No engine yet is said out loud. If a first run didn't finish (the engine download is about 250 MB), "New environment" and "Prepare it now" now tell you to retry setup instead of doing nothing (#57).
- A damaged environment is never mistaken for a new install. If an environment's settings file can't be read, the library says so and opens Troubleshooting instead of offering to prepare a new one; your games stay on disk.
- Play links wait for the library to load. A
highball://link or a Mac app double-clicked at cold start no longer fails with "not in this library" while Epic's list is still loading. - Stop reaches every long operation; a dropped .exe runs as a session; environment wording throughout; Settings and the game page's Advanced section follow the design.
Verified before tagging (M1 Pro, macOS 26.6.2, engine r1)
- Counter-Strike 2 (DXMT ~80 fps), Portal 2 (DXVK 134 fps), Portal, Aperture Desk Job (106 fps), The Sims Legacy Collection launch. 162 tests. Upgrade, first-run and game smokes pass.
Known, not in this release
- CS:GO legacy freezes at map load on macOS 26 (a threading race; the engine fix is being built).
- Rockstar Games Launcher sign-in and Ubisoft Connect stay blank on the bundled Wine 10 engine. The fix exists (a Wine driver change in our Wine 11 engine, verified with the Rockstar sign-in rendering) and ships when that engine becomes installable.
