Highball 0.10.16 (beta)

pre-release4 hours ago

Forza Horizon 6's dialogue, the navigator and most of the engine sound are back. The game plays its sound as a 7.1.4 surround mix, and on Mac speakers or headphones only the front left and right parts came through. The new Wine 11 engines render the whole mix for your speakers or headphones with Apple's spatial mixer, so every channel is heard, and stereo games sound exactly as before. Thanks to @TxCsOffc, who found the cause and wrote the fix (highball#313). To get it, open your Forza Horizon 6 environment's settings, then Advanced, Engine, and pick r24. Other Wine 11 environments can pick r25.

Red Dead Redemption 2 no longer stops with Rockstar launcher error 113 in an environment moved off the default engine. Steam's settings were hidden from the launcher there, and Highball now keeps them visible. Thanks to crêpe on Discord, who traced it and found the fix.

Also in this version:

  • Forza Horizon 4 waits for a Windows app package that Wine never listed. The r24 and r25 engines list it, so if Forza Horizon 4 runs with no window for you, pick r24, the D3DMetal 4 one, and tell us how it goes (highball#268).
  • A Steam install that finishes while the game's page is open turns its button into Play. Thanks to @NorseGaud for the video (highball#286).
  • Stop really stops an Epic download and keeps its progress for the next Install, and quitting Highball stops it too. Thanks to udance4ever (highball#323).
  • A Highball folder on an exFAT or other non-Mac drive no longer hands Wine's video plugins the hidden ._ files macOS writes there. Thanks to akki on Discord.
  • A game whose Mac version on Steam is 32-bit now says why Highball installs the Windows version. Thanks to udance4ever (highball#316).
  • The Sims Legacy Collection's thumbnail fix is in the Wine 11 engines too (highball#283).
  • BeamNG.drive starts with -gfx dx11 by itself. Thanks to DJTheron (highball-db#474).

The first Steam start or two on a new engine revision can take longer while macOS prepares its graphics caches, then it is as fast as before. Wine 11 environments never change engine by themselves, so nothing moves until you pick the new one.
