Portal and Portal 2 have their HDR back, with the lighting, bloom and haze they have on Windows. Map loads used to freeze with HDR on a Mac, so their fixes turned it off. The fixes now turn on a switch of the games' own that avoids the freeze. If you applied a fix before, click Re-apply on the game's page. This was tested on an M4, so if you play on an M1, M2 or M3, tell us how it goes. Thanks to frankynov on Discord, whose screenshots started it.
The Sims Legacy Collection's lot thumbnails and family portraits no longer turn into noise. To keep the game from opening on a black screen, the graphics layer keeps its own copy of the game's memory, and that copy never sent back what the GPU drew for the game to read. The default engine updates itself to r24 for this, a 1.7 MB download. Thumbnails and portraits saved while the bug was there stay as they are until the game draws them again, which for a lot's thumbnail is the next time you save that lot. Half-Life 2 has an optional fix on its page. The game starts on its DirectX 8 path on a Mac whatever the graphics mode, and the fix moves it to the DirectX 9 path with HDR lighting and better water, for about a fifth of the frame rate (65 fps against 52 on an M4).
A game's fixes now reach it when it is installed in another Steam library, such as an external drive. The fix files for Portal, Portal 2, CS:GO Legacy and RaceRoom used to land in the main library, where the game never read them.
Show the last launch log on a Steam game's page opens the log with the game in it. Opening Steam again after a crash left a newer, empty log, and the button opened that one instead. Thanks to natalie on Discord.
An environment's settings opened from the Settings window show one way back instead of two, and name the engine the short way, Wine 10.0 or Wine 11.0. Follow-ups to @matiasmg-ok's pages (highball#265).
