Performance and DynOS update
This release focuses on smoother gameplay in actor-heavy areas such as Bob-omb Battlefield while preserving enemy behavior and gameplay.
What changed
- Reduced general actor CPU cost by removing unnecessary square roots from the shared nearest-player search used by Bob-ombs, Goombas, Chain Chomp, bosses, flames, and many mod actors.
- Removed additional repeated distance work from Bob-omb Buddy steering.
- Floating VR hands now use matching hand display lists from active DynOS character packs when available, carrying the pack's hand geometry, textures, lighting, and colors. Packs without compatible hand lists safely use the standard gloves.
- Enemy targeting, chase thresholds, collisions, damage, interactions, and multiplayer selection behavior are unchanged.
- Retains the v0.5.9 Flame & Lava Optimizations setting and all existing VR interactions.
Install or update
Download and completely extract the Windows ZIP below. Do not run it from inside the ZIP. Start your headset software/OpenXR runtime, run SM64-Co-Op-DX-VR.exe, and provide your own legally obtained, unmodified Super Mario 64 US .z64 ROM if requested.
The ZIP contains no ROM or Nintendo game assets.
DynOS packs
Place extracted compatible packs in the game's dynos/packs/ folder, restart the game, then enable them in the DynOS menu. Copy the extracted pack folder—not the downloaded archive—and avoid duplicate nesting such as My Pack/My Pack/files.
The Quest standalone edition uses the external path /sdcard/SM64VR/dynos/packs/; see the standalone repository for its complete SideQuest instructions.
